This month, Hon Steven Ciobo MP, Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment announced Tourism Australia’s Business Events Bid Fund Program, with an investment of $12m across the next 3 years. The investment will help bring strategic international business events of national significance to Australia, boosting trade, investment, tourism jobs and helping local industries showcase their capability on the world stage. ABS: International Conference Arrivals in Jan Down 17%Australian Bureau of Statistics: Year-on-year comparison of visitors arriving to attend a convention/conference for the 12 months to January 2018 shows an overall increase of 25%. There were a total of 13,400 arrivals in January 2018 whose main purpose of coming to Australia was a convention/conference. This translates to a 17% decline from January 2017 (16,200).
