ARE YOU HOSTING AN AUSTRALIA DAY BBQ? Handy tips to reduce your waste

Australia Day is a great chance to catch up with friends and family for a barbie.

Almost 40 per cent of the rubbish in our garbage bins is food waste, so try and reduce the amount of waste from your barbeque.

Only buy what you need to feed your guests and If you do have food left over, why not save it for another meal, package some up for your guests to take home or compost any scraps which can then be used in your gardens.

Also remember, most of your drink packaging can be recycled. So make sure aluminium cans, bottles and any boxes end up in the recycling bin.

Household recycling can also be taken free of charge, to your nearest Resource Recovery Centre which are open on Australia Day (unless it is a total fire ban day).

Can I still have a BBQ if it is a total fire ban day?

There are restrictions on barbeques on total fire ban days. To check what you can and can't do, please visit the CFA website

EXCITING NEW GYM EQUIPMENT IS HERE Our new equipment is ready and waiting

Our leisure centre gyms have been closed for the last few days, but for good reason.

We've been busy upgrading our facilities, including installing brand new state-of-the art gym equipment.

The upgrades at Kilmore Leisure Centre and Seymour Sports and Aquatic Centre include spin bikes, adaptive motion trainers, step mills, treadmills and recumbent and upright bikes fitted with Spotify and Netflix.

So instead of sitting on the couch and watching your favourite shows, head to the gym and get in some valuable exercise at the same time.
