Click here Exeter PA Newsletter - April 2017Spring has sprung and that makes me happy as Larry..Larry the Lamb, that is, bouncing through the field as I drive past on my way home in the glorious sunshine. I love this time of year, when we've got long summer days to look forward to, walks on the beach, Olly Murs and Last Night of BSO Proms at Powderham Castle, my birthday (hint hint)............and awesome development events! Check out what we've got in store for you all.
AirBnB who...?? Forget that. Check out SITU's serviced apartments instead! Just like hotels, serviced apartments are offered across the world by individual owners, small family-run businesses, as well as large multi-national brands and come in all shapes and sizes to meet a wide range of budgets and tastes. However, unlike a hotel room, a serviced apartment always offers a kitchen, whether this be a simple kitchenette, or a fully functioning and equipped kitchen with laundry facilities. The facility to cook a meal, and relax in a lounge area elevates a serviced apartment to a place to live, rather than just stay and it is for this reason that serviced apartments are becoming the accommodation option of choice with an increasingly mobile global workforce. SITU offers stays from 3 nights to 2 years and anything between! We've been offered an exclusive opportunity to view their Exeter offering on TUESDAY, 23 MAY. Drop in between 3pm and 8pm and enjoy some drinks and canapes, as well as a tour. And, for this event, SITU have partnered with Birwood Legal Recruitment, who will be set up at the apartments to provide a drop in CV and interview technique clinic for anyone who would like to get tips from a recruitment expert on a free, no obligation basis. So, if you'd like to join us at West Street Mews Apartments for drinks, nibbles, networking and more, click on the RSVP button. Please indicate what time you are likely to be there. We've been taking our message to the top!We hosted a showcase event on the evening of 6 April, aimed at senior leaders within local organisations. We wanted to introduce them to the Network, tell them what we are about and explain why it is important for PAs to come along to our events. It was great to see so many bosses on the night. Our key note speaker was Lucy Brazier, CEO of Executive Secretary Magazine, who did a great job, providing our bosses with some food for thought. Nigel Hare, Operations Manager at Devon Air Ambulance, gave such an amazing presentation about how his PA (Cat Moss-Crump) AND the charity have benefited from the Network that Lucy asked him to write a piece for her magazine! We've received great feedback, and have even been asked if we would hold another! I hope this all means that more of you will find it even easier to come along to events going forward, knowing that bosses have bought into the benefits. 11,145 stepsSam Eaglesfield of Ashfords delivered a fantastic Network Doggy Walk on Saturday, 8 April, and we each contributed over 11k steps toward the Devon Big March. Sam even ensured the sun was shining, and when we got back to the start point there was a ragtime band, ice-creams and a food festival to be enjoyed - pretty impressive, huh? Let's see if she can top that on the next one - planned for SATURDAY, 15 JULY. Now, you don't have to have a dog to join in. So, if you fancy a bit of talking whilst walking, with a spot of lunch to reward yourself for being so energetic - then register your interest with Sam. Our very own superwomanA lot of you will know Lauren, either through networking events, social media or through her food blog. How does she manage it all; being a mum, wife, networker and blogger extraordinaire whilst holding down a full time job? She does it cos she's super! A Super Achiever! If, like us, you think Lauren deserves to be recognised as a Super Achiever - please vote for her here. Voting closes v soon. #NotjustagirlsjobThe Executive and Personal Assistant Association, the national association for our profession run by Victoria Darragh, is doing great work in tackling the gender stereotypes within the EA/PA field. The gender split nationally is currently 97% female v 3% male. EPAA's mission is to inspire boys and men to consider the profession as a credible career choice, as it believes better gender balance will enrich the profession for all of us. See what male assistants have to say about their careers in this fabulous video. We're also hoping to have Dave Ray join us for Breakfast in August, who was Assistant to Mr Sainsbury himself back in the day! Watch out for our next newsletterIn the meantime, please do share this newsletter with colleagues and contacts who you think would enjoy being part of our network - or encourage them to subscribe to our updates through our website (www.exeterpanetwork.com).
