Pupils got on the bus early on Friday morning. The year was split into groups and participated in many activities on the farm. The groups got to meet most of the the farm animals and feed them, baked brown bread which they could then take home, took an open-back tractor ride, and even got to go bog jumping. The bog-jumping activity did not help the smell on the bus journey home! In addition the year group had an educational tour of the farm. Here the groups learned the inputs, processes, and outputs of the farm and how factors such as the weather can affect a farmer's income so much. The year also got to see where the animals were kept in the winter and some pupils even got to milk a cow.
The Geography field trip really helped the year revise for their summer examination and reinforced the things we have covered in class. Athletics Ireland National Talent Identification DayOn 11 May five girls and five boys from Form 1 took a trip to Abbotstown Indoor Athletics Stadium to participate in a competition with schools from all over Ireland. On arrival we were handed a pink or blue t-shirt each. This was a nice touch and a special souvenir to bring home with us. Our first activity was 80 metre sprints where we were greeted by the Irish sprinter Molly Scott. It was great to meet her and we really benefited from her sprinting tips and techniques. We also did high jump and long jump and there were some professionals there to give us some advice on how to improve. After lunch, we heard from a nutritionist who gave us a talk on having a healthy and balanced diet which was very interesting. Irish sprinter David Gillick spoke to us about his training, what
inspired him, and his drive, discipline, and passion for running. It was overwhelming to meet all these famous athletes and an unforgettable experience. Ajiri won the competition and received a computer as a prize which was incredible. It was a fantastic day and the atmosphere was great. I think it really inspired and encouraged us all to join athletic clubs and to further train and participate in this sport. Overall it was an enjoyable experience that we all learnt a lot from. Form 5 mock interviewsLast Wednesday pupils from Form 5 gathered together in The Reynolds Hall for Careers Evening where they were met with over thirty eager parents who interviewed them for various careers and professions. It was a great success. End-of-Year Sports CelebrationsIt has been a busy and successful year for sport at The High School. This week pupils have enjoyed end-of-year celebratory dinners with team mates and coaches, while some past pupils have returned to the school to play against the current 6th Form in nostalgic competitions. Thank you to all of our players for their dedication and for supplying us with hours of entertainment on the sidelines. Pi Day Maths CompetitionA team of four pupils from Form 3 took part in the Π Quiz at Wesley College on 5 May. We faced eight rounds of two or four questions and had six minutes per round to work out our answers. The challenge of solving maths questions in a competitive environment proved an enjoyable experience for all involved. Classics CompetitionCongratulations to these Form 2 and 3 pupils who won the recent Iliad-off competition in Classical Studies. Dates for your Diary
