As host city of the 2016 G20 summit and the 2022 Asian Games, the world is finally taking note of this city which has for centuries been a refuge for Chinese travelers. Here’s more on some of the hotels which accompany Hangzhou’s debut on the world stage:

Four Seasons Hotel Hangzhou at West Lake

The Four Season brand maintains its reputation as a purveyor in luxury and refinement at this tranquil enclave set upon the whimsical ponds and streams of Hangzhou’s famed West Lake. Ranked #9 on TripAdvisor's Travelers’ Choice 2016 ranking for Top 25 Hotels – China, the hotel is both contemporary and foregone. Lush garden pathways take visitors back in time as they are immersed in a 17 acre zen-like palace illuminated with a stunning infinity pond, pools, pavilions and recreational areas. Visitors can opt to arrive at the hotel by taking a traditional Chinese wooden rowboat from West Lake Pier, all the while sipping premium Hangzhou Longjing tea and taking in the pristine views.

The property has something for every kind of traveler: Culinary aficionados can dine at Jin Sha, one of the Best 50 Restaurants in China, according to Food & Wine Magazine, and considered a 2016 4-Star Restaurant by Forbes Travel Guide. Those looking to explore the city can discover the latest happenings from the concierge team’s local experts blog. And those in need of some “R&R” can try out any of the hotel’s nine treatment suites, modeled after ancient Chinese palaces. At the end of the day, guests can retire to one of the 78 guest rooms or suites. The uniquely designed accommodations are generous in size and feature the five-star amenities Four Seasons’ patrons expect. Want to see more? Watch this captivating video here.

Two Shangri-La’s Are Better Than One

Hangzhou is home to not one, but two stunning Shangri-La properties. The venerable Shangri-La Hangzhou is one of its most famous and historical hotels. Adjacent to the city, once entering the 40-acre property, the bustling cityscape fades, unmasking a tranquil oasis. Guests can rent bikes to explore the grounds' lush greenery, hillocks and views of the Xiling Bridge.

What’s more, the property has undergone extensive renovations, bringing it back to its original grandeur. Just five minutes from the downtown area and located right of West Lake, guests will have the best of Hangzhou at their fingertips.
On the other side of the city lies the Midtown Shangri-La, Hangzhou. Opened in March 2016, the property lies in the center of Hangzhou’s bustling Xiacheng District. A lively alternative to its more serene sister property, this location will satisfy urban travelers looking for sophistication and fun. Guests can mingle at the Midtown Brewery lobby bar, featuring an in-house brew master designing hand-crafted beers, with a local twist, and later retire to hotel’s stately accommodations. The 417 contemporary guest rooms feature a courtyard garden or West Lake views. Within one mile of the hotel guests will find the former residence of Sha Menghai, the Broken Bridge and Wushan Night Market.
