We are looking forward to another busy and successful year together at The High School. Looking back at 2018, we had an unforgettable 12 months. Here is a video montage of just some of last year's highlights. We trust that 2019 will be just as successful. Leinster Hockey Association Senior CupCongratulations to The High School Senior 1 hockey team which defeated The Teresian School 1-0 to qualify for the semi-final of the Leinster Hockey Association Schoolgirls Senior Cup. We warmly congratulate the team on its achievements to date and wish all members of the squad every success. The semi-final round of the competition will be played against Wesley College at 12.00 pm on Thursday 17 January at Grange Road. We look forward to seeing you there. Vinnie Murray CupThe High School Senior Cup Team played Salesian College in the first round of the Vinnie Murray Cup on Wednesday 9 January at Donnybrook Stadium. They gave a winning performance to the delight of parents, staff, and pupils (past and current alike) who came to support them. The final score was 32-10 to The High School. The second round game will be played against Catholic University School on Wednesday 16 January at Donnybrook Stadium at 2.00 pm. All support is most welcome. The High School Junior Cup Team will play Newpark Comprehensive School in the first round of the Father Godfrey Cup at 4.00 pm on Monday 14 January at Donnybrook Stadium. The boys have been training hard over the Christmas holidays and are looking forward to their first game at Energia Park. Your support would be very welcome at this match. Form 4 EnterpriseAs part of our Form 4 enterprise class we have designed and produced a line of sports socks. The socks are for sale every lunch outside The Reynolds Hall for €8. They are very high quality and are guaranteed to last as long as they fit you. Stocks are limited so get them while you can! Hockey WinsCongratulations to the senior and minor hockey teams who won their recent league matches against Mount Temple. We wish our players every success in all future games. Carol ServiceTeachers and pupils gathered at Zion Church to participate in the annual Service of Nine Lessons and Carols on the last day of last term. There we enjoyed music performed by the school choir and orchestra. Pupils from various form groups read prayers and poems that shared the spirit of Christmas. It was the perfect way to end the Autumn term. Helen Kane Memorial Charity ChallengeCongratulations to our Form 4 pupils and their teachers who took part in this year's Helen Kane Memorial Charity Challenge by swimming at the Forty Foot and climbing the Sugar Loaf. December temperatures did nothing to dampen the swimmers' and hikers' enthusiasm and on the journey home some even declared that they would do it again next year! All money collected will be donated to St Luke's Hospital. Junior Debating SuccessCongratulations to Cillian West who has progressed to the knockout stages of the UCD Junior Schools Debating Competition. Cillian will be taking part in the next round of the competition on Thursday 24 January. Well done to Daniel Frew, Michelle Yang, and Oscar Maharg Bravo who took part in the first three rounds of this competition. Good luck to Jake O'Loughlin, Eoin Kelly, Ella Meleady, and Emma Fitzpatrick who are taking part in their first debating competition on Saturday 26 January at Castleknock Community College. Ireland U21 HockeyWe should like to wish past pupil and current hockey coach Mia Jennings (HSD, 2011-2017), all the best as she represents Ireland in the U21 team this week in Alicante in a three game series against Great Britain. Junior Boys BasketballBoys from Forms 1 and 2 who are interested in playing basketball should attend training sessions on Saturdays in the Gymnasium from 11.30 am to 1.00 pm with Mr Boylan.
