Glen Iris is part of the Local Government Area (LGA) of the City of Stonnington, home to approximately 20,000 young people (aged 12-25 years) with almost 3,000 young people living in low-income households. With multiple schools and tertiary education campuses close by and a transient youth population, many more young people are connected to Glen Iris and will now have access to services suited to meet the often-complex needs of young people and their families. According to the Royal Children's Hospital National Child Health Poll, the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect the mental health and wellbeing of young people. Forty-five per cent of children and adolescents report experiencing loneliness during the pandemic, while 85 per cent missed family and friends, and 55 per cent found it hard to connect with friends. One third of parents surveyed said that the pandemic had negatively impacted on their children's mental health. headspace Glen Iris will support young people to access early intervention mental health services as well as supports around their physical and sexual health, alcohol and other drug (AOD) and work and study. Young people will be involved in designing, monitoring and evaluating the headspace Glen Iris’ activities and services. The consortium, led by Access Health and Community, includes Relationships Australia Victoria, St Vincent’s Psychiatric Services, JobCo, Uniting Victoria and Tasmania, Star Health, City of Stonnington and City of Boroondara. headspace Glen Iris is funded by the Australian Government under the Primary Health Network program. The headspace Glen Iris centre location will be announced shortly. |
