Welcome Back!

We have thoroughly enjoyed welcoming your sons and daughters back to The High School for the beginning of the Autumn term and look forward to sharing the benefits of another happy and productive year with all of you during 2016/17.

I am pleased to report that Leaving Certificate examination results at The High School in 2016 were once again among the best recorded in the history of the school.  In summary, 86% of the papers taken at higher level achieved grade C or above; grade E or less was obtained on 1% of all papers.  I should like to offer my warmest congratulations to all candidates on their individual successes.  We are equally delighted to announce that our Form 1 intake has showed a significant increase in 2016/17 which is a most encouraging development.  We offer all our new pupils a warm welcome to The High School and wish them every success in the future.

It has been a pleasure to welcome Mrs Reilly, Mr McCaughey, and Ms Walker back to The High School in a full-time capacity.  Mr Davis, Mrs Humphreys, and Mr Draper retired with effect from August 2016; Ms Boyce, Mr Flynn, and Mr Clarke resigned from their positions at The High School.  We thank them for their excellent service and wish them all the best for the future.  We welcome the following new staff to The High School – Mr K D Poole, Finance and Estates Bursar; Ms Bill, Geography; Ms Gallagher, Irish; Mr Hosking, PE and Games; Ms Whelan, Guidance Counsellor; and Mr Campbell, Caretaker/Groundsman.

We are fortunate in having the services of an excellent staff who are committed to providing the highest standards of academic and pastoral care for all pupils attending The High School.   You can follow the wide range of curricular and extra-curricular activities co-ordinated by staff at the school in 2016/17 through our weekly e-newsletter, via social media, and on our website at www.highschooldublin.com.  In conclusion, I should like to take this opportunity on behalf of all members of staff to thank parents for the kind messages of support and encouragement received by my colleagues in 2015/16 which were greatly appreciated by all concerned.

Mr G. A. Forrest - Principal

HSD Past Pupil Wins Medal at The Olympics

Congratulations to Annalise Murphy (HSD 2002-08) who has won an Olympic silver medal representing Team Ireland in the Laser Radial dinghy class following a highly competitive medal race in Rio de Janeiro.  It is the first time that this particular distinction has been achieved in the history of the school. We look forward to Annalise's visit to The High School on Thursday and Friday next week for two very special Assemblies.

Our Very Own HSD Hockey Olympian

For over a year we have been following the fortunes of the Ireland Hockey team with great interest as it became clear that they had won a place to compete at the Rio Olympics, especially as one of our past pupils, Shane O’Donoghue (HSD, 2008-11) was named on the squad.  A group of keen High School pupils and their families were there to support Shane and the Ireland hockey team at their matches. They and the entire High School community could not be more proud of Shane and the team's achievement. Well done, Shane.

Successful Summer Sports Camp

New Form 1 pupils enjoyed a hockey and rugby camp as part of their induction to The High School at the end of August.  They got a chance to meet their peers in a fun and relaxed environment while familiarising themselves with the school's layout and facilities.  It was a most worthwhile few days.
