MESSAGES

    A message from Damien Laforest

It has been an interesting last few months for Reds Global. July and August was very quiet in terms of rigging works but September and October are very compressed.

We just installed 3 cranes at Meadowbank for Roberts Pizzarotti, which is the first time we will have worked with this tier one builder, supplying cranage for the Meadowbank Education Precinct. Cranes consist of 2 Favco's (one electric) and a Comedil 430.

Fabrication team has been busy with building a grillage base to sit under a CTT561 for Meriton and another grillage for our recovery crane going into a Built project in the CBD. Fantastic work!

The yard team, preparing cranes and rigging teams getting them safely up and down have done an amazing job. Hats off to you!

    Rigging works recently include:

    • Dismantle CTL340 at Granville for Parkview
    • Dismantle CTT472 at Coffs Harbour for CPB
    • Dismantle CTL430 at Granville for Parkview
    • Install grillage base at Lidcombe for Meriton
    • Dismantle M390D at Lidcombe for Meriton
    • Install CTT161 at Leppington for AW Edwards
    • Install CTT332 at Leppington for AW Edwards
    • Install CTT331 at Bellevue Hill for Richard Crookes
    • Dismantle CTL340 at Surry Hills for Hansen Yuncken
    • Install MK380 at Meadowbank for Roberts Pizzarotti
    • Install M390D at Meadowbank for Roberts Pizzarotti
    • Install CTL430 at Meadowbank for Roberts Pizzarotti

I have heard it so many times, "your health is your wealth" or something similar. For some people they learn this lesson very young, for others like me, it takes a while longer, if at all. It could be an event in your life that trigger you into action but if left unchecked its likely to be fatal.

I am at the beginning to take back my life. I am 43 years old, grossly overweight and need to take a deep breath to put on my shoes and socks (depressing). I am sharing this with everyone because I have always made an excuse as to why I don't eat healthily or exercise. That excuse is "time". Like lots of people in the construction industry, we don't have much time. I now know that the "lack of time" excuse is rubbish. It is a cop out, the easy choice and detrimental to our lives.

There will always be something related to health in this newsletter, because it is just so very important. I wish I could undo some of my choices, but I do now agree "your health is your wealth" and I am looking forward to getting mine back. I hope that some of this thinking resonates with some people in Reds and if your anything like me, and think lack of time is your barrier, think again. We have had some sad news in the last year about co-workers or families of our co-workers, the future is unknown and I really do not want any sad news from our company, especially if it is preventable.

Look forward to catching up with you all on 12th December for our Reds Global Christmas gathering. A few COVID hurdles to get over but should be great with details coming out soon.

    Take care, Damien.

    HEALTH AND SAFETY

    Hi All,

If you haven’t met me yet, I’m Mitch, and I’m the new ‘Safety Guy’ at Reds Global. I’ve got
some big boots to fill replacing James, but I accept the challenge and will continue to build
on his great work. This is my first role which is crane focussed, so I have a lot to learn from
all of you. I’ve filled a number of roles over the last 13 years in mining and large commercial
construction, but Safety has always been my passion. I’ve spent time working for the
builder, and now I look forward to helping deliver the service, quality, and safety that I
expected from my subcontractors whilst in that role. Reds have a great reputation in the industry, and I am excited to join a team that is ‘The safe choice in construction hire’.

In regards to my first safety message, I thought I would briefly discuss safety culture.        What is a safety culture? A safety culture is an organisational culture that places a high level
of importance on safety beliefs, values and attitudes—and these are shared by the majority
of people within the company or workplace. It can be characterised as ‘the way we do
things around here’. A positive safety culture can result in improved workplace health and
    safety and organisational performance.
From my initial few days at Reds, I can tell that we have a terrific safety culture. Id like to see
this continue and further develop. For a safety culture to be successful it needs to be led
from the top—that is, safety culture needs to be embraced and practised by the managers
of the company. Management are here to support all workers when it comes to matters of
safety, and want you all to go home in the same state you arrived to work.

It’s an extremely busy time for the business, with a large amount of upcoming high risk
works. I just ask that everyone keeps their minds on the task at hand, follows documented
processes, and report any issues to management. Don’t be afraid to speak up!

I’m now the proud owner of the safety phone (0448 515 185) and it is always on. I look forward to meeting you all out on site in the very new future.

    Cheers Mitch

    WYONG HOSPITAL 1ST CRANE CLIMB

My first crane climb, what an epic experience. Thank you to Joey Attard for organising everything and to Max Kentwell and Rik Wittkopp for taking the time and patience to show me around. I have a new found respect for what you boys do. Watch this space, I might be visiting you soon.

    Stay amazing,  cheers Lisa

    WEEKLY PAPERWORK -

I know you are all aware of the importance of sending your paperwork through and to be honest, most of you have come leaps and bounds with doing so. There are still a few of you that are texting your reports to me, which i don't mind but i would prefer you to please get in the habit of sending them via email. This allows us to have better tracking of the reports and if i am not in the office, Ryan is able to receive the report and deal with any issues that come in.

Please ensure your daily paperwork is emailed first thing every morning to maintenance@redsglobal.com and your weekly paperwork is emailed first thing on a Monday morning to admin@redsglobal.com. We are also requesting your generator reports to be sent through every day. Send all files as a PDF. Tiny Scanner is a simple and free application on Apple and Android. It is a time consuming process to receive photos which slows down the payroll process.

    Thank you, Lisa

    THANK YOU

Shout out to our rigging team who always seem to achieve seamless installs and dismantles. Well done to you all for your continous dedication and hard work. I was lucky enough to join our team at the Hansen Yuncken dismantle earlier this month and to be honest, I have never been more proud and impressed with our A Team. To watch a team who trust and rely on each other was heartwarming and refreshing at the same time. The planing and training that goes into every job and every team member is thanks to our Project Manager, Billy Mc Mullen and our Management team, Jason and Damien. It really is a true honour and privilege to be apart of Reds Global.

    HEALTH AND WELLNESS

    Physical Wellness

    1. Make time for exercise. If you find it difficult to begin a whole fitness regimen, start with adding simple, manageable changes to your daily routine. Park on the far side of the lot so you have to walk farther inside. Walk as many flights of stairs as you can before you switch to the elevator. Take a lap outside the building during your break. Try shoulder shrugs, arm swings, knee raises, or any other cubicle-friendly workouts you can think of during your work day. Dance to your favorite music when you get home. Add more difficult tasks as you become comfortable.
    2. Eat breakfast and pack your lunches. Yes, breakfast is as important as they say, but empty calories (*cough cough* doughnuts *cough*) don’t count. Try fresh fruit or something packed with protein. Take time Sunday to plan flavourful lunches for your week that you’ll enjoy and that will help you stave off your junk food cravings. A few nuts can be a quick, easy replacement for unhealthy salty snacks. Avoid processed or frozen lunches whenever possible. Find fun new salad, soup, and whole grain sandwich recipes to keep your lunches fresh.
    3. Drink water. It’s a classic because it’s a necessity, and we all forget our H20 every now and then. Depending on each individual’s body, adults need nine to thirteen cups of water per day.
    4. Start a garden. This benefits every part of the self. The labor involved is fantastic exercise, and fruits and vegetables provide excellent nutrition. It’s also a hobby that requires thought and dedication, keeping the mind sharp and providing and emotional outlet.
    5. Find a nutrition or fitness buddy at work and keep each other accountable. It’s easier to stick to healthy habits when you know someone else cares whether or not you slip up, and a coworker is more likely to have a similar schedule to yours so you can go to the gym together.
