Technical Updates and Essential Reading Social Value Act strengthened Recently cabinet minister David Lidlington announced to the Business Services Association Annual Chairman's Dinner that central government will begin to use a new model to evaluate the social impact of contracts which outsource public services. This is with the intention of removing barriers for small businesses and social enterprises, with a further aim to tighten the gender pay gap, increase representation of minorities in the workforce and increase representation of disabled people in the workforce. The 2013 Social Value Act requires those commissioning public services to think about the potential social benefit of services from the beginning of the commissioning process. This announcement extends this to cover goods and work contracts and now will require procurement officials to explicitly evaluate social value where appropriate, instead of simply considering it. The new social value requirement will be in place by next summer. Read the Government announcement here. And SVUK Member Pioneer's Post's article here.
