The ABDO Arms at 100% Optical
4 - 6 FEBRUARY 2017 • EXCEL LONDON

ABDO is looking forward to an exciting time at 100% Optical. Once again the Association will be hosting the ABDO Arms, which is proving to be one of the most popular and busy annual features at the show.

The ABDO Arms is a specially designated ‘pub’ bar area for ABDO where Association members will be able to network and socialise.

ABDO board members and ABDO staff will be on hand to discuss ABDO’s strategies and for you to let us know your views.

Staff from ABDO College and Dispensing Optics will also be present.

ABDO CET at 100% Optical

4 - 6 FEBRUARY 2017 • EXCEL LONDON

ABDO will also be conducting CET discussion workshops and coordinating events at a newly designed ‘Dispensing Workshop’ area.

Up to 15 CET points are available and sessions are approved for dispensing opticians and optometrists.

The workshops are free to attend and admission is strictly limited to 40 delegates per workshop.

ABDO at Optrafair

ABDO will be present at the Association Lounge (G120) where board members and staff will be on hand throughout the show to discuss ABDO’s strategies.

ABDO will be delivering CET approved lectures and workshops at the ABDO CET Theatre (H130). Up to 15 CET points are available and sessions are approved for dispensing opticians and optometrists.

ABDO College will be exhbiting at stand F130.

The ABDO annual meeting for members (an informal meeting with a presidential review of the year along with a chance for members to ask questions of the board) will take place at the ABDO CET Theatre at 5.00pm on Sunday 10 April.

2017 ABDO gala dinner

SUNDAY 2 APRIL 2017 • BIRMINGHAM METROPOLE

The 2017 ABDO gala dinner will be held during Optrafair on Sunday 2 April at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole.

The gala dinner is a unique networking event for dispensing opticians and other professionals from across the optical sector. It provides a valuable opportunity to meet friends within the dispensing profession and foster new relationships in an informal atmosphere.

What's new in EyecareFAQ?

New in EyecareFAQ, you’ll find an infographic to share on the subject of food and eye health.

Get involved with EyecareFAQ, ABDO’s campaign to help consumers learn more about looking after their eyes, and the role of the registered dispensing optician.

You can use any of the EyecareFAQ answers, images and infographics on your own blog or website. Follow, like and share these useful resources on your practice and personal social media channels, to help the public learn about eyecare and promote the role of the registered dispensing optician.

Membership subcription renewal

ABDO membership subscription renewal notices were sent to members in December. If you haven't already done so, your membership subsription fee can now be paid online at www.abdo.org.uk by logging into the Members' Area.

Please ensure we receive your subsciption renewal payment before the 31 January 2017 deadline.

If you have not received a renewal notice, please look online for the amount outstanding. If there are any problems or changes please email membership@abdo.org.uk.

ABDO website: Members' Area login

If you have never logged in to the ABDO website Members' Area, you will need to register for a PIN number.

Once you have clicked on 'Member Login' on the ABDO website home page you will see the ABDO Member Area login page with the text: ‘If you are not registered for a PIN please click here if a member’. You will need to enter your name, membership number and date of birth; you will then receive an email with your PIN number.

If you think you have registered before and have forgotten your PIN, just click on the 'Forgotten your PIN?' option and the system will send you your PIN number.

Once you access the Members' Area you can pay your subscription, update your address details, do online CET, print-off receipts for any payments made, as well as many other useful things.

Online benefits

To access the online benefits, go to the ABDO website Members' Area and login, then using the left hand navigation, go to 'Membership Services' and select 'Online benefits', then use the 'Click here to access ABDO benefits online' text link displayed on screen.

Exam application forms

Exam application forms for the ABDO Summer 2017 examination session are now available to download and print off from the Examinations section of the ABDO website.

WCSM courses available through ABDO College

The WCSM courses available through ABDO College range from Level 2 Optical Support to Level 4 Optical Technicians. The programme also includes Fast Track Technician Training for FBDOs. WCSM courses currently available from ABDO College include:

  • Level 2 & Level 3 Optical Support
  • Level 2 & Level 3 Diploma in Optical Retail Skills
  • Level 2 & Level 3 Diploma in Manufacturing Spectacles
  • Level 4 Diploma for Optical Technicians
  • Fast Track Technician Training for FBDOs
  • SCQF Level 5 & Level 7 Certificate in Optical Care

All of these courses lead to qualifications awarded by the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers.
