For the new school year, the FNHA Children's Oral Health Initiative (COHI) team has created a number of new oral health resources for parents across the province.

Resources include: Tips For Teething, Healthy Teeth & Infant Feeding, Providing Healthy Drinks, Raising Good Eaters, Creating Healthy Lunches, Pregnancy & Oral Health, and many more! 

Print resources and parent oral health kits will be distributed to parents through the FNHA COHI team this month.

Learn to use your Boardroom Telehealth Equipment like a Pro 

Have questions about how to use your community’s telehealth equipment? Look no further – the FNHA Telehealth Training Manual has the answers. The training manual for educational telehealth covers everything from step-by-step telehealth ‘basics’ to requesting a multi-site session. The new manual also provides tips on how to make videoconferencing more effective.

Communities that have received boardroom-based telehealth equipment in the past year will be mailed copies of the manual in October.

The FNHA is pleased to announce the newest member of the family in the selection of Curt Walker as Chief Administrative Officer (CAO). Curt joins the FNHA following a 4-year term as CAO for Lil’wat Nation.The CAO will support in consolidating FNHA corporate services and will be home to all corporate, business, financial and technology-related programs.

In this session the UBC Learning Circle is joined by two Naturopathic students, Jessica Hueser and Elli Reilander, who are both currently attending fourth and final year at the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine. Elli and Jessica will join us live from our studio via webinar and will share on how Naturopathic medicine can complement First Nations wellness and health through diet, supplements and natural plants. They will review how naturopathic medicine falls in line with holistic views of health and how they both work with First Nations in their home communities and in the city.

Orange Shirt Day, held on September 30th annually, is a legacy of the St. Joseph Mission residential school commemoration event held in Williams Lake, BC, Canada, in the spring of 2013. It grew out of Phyllis Webstad’s account of having her shiny new orange shirt taken away on her first day of school at the Mission, and it has become an annual discussion on all aspects of residential schools.

First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) currently manages their own data centre in the Vancouver area. In order to protect FNHA data, assure business continuity, and eliminate single point of failure, while keeping in compliance with health organizations standards (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act), FNHA requires a secondary data centre.
