From the Editor's Desk

Hi There  -

July is my favorite month of the year, it includes my birthday, and the birthdays of my Dad and sister.  It's also warm and summer time, and just makes me happy.  Couple that with getting race 4 times in the region, and this month has been a great one so far!

This month has also been an exciting one!  Check out the article below to read about the two new events that we're introducing in the upcoming months.  Also, Chris Brown and I secured a venue for the Tire Rack Street Survival program.  As soon as I get some of the details finalized, I'll be in touch with more information, and I will be asking you to take the course listed below to become a coach!

CLICK HERE for the coaching site to get certified.  Once you are certified, it asks you to email your certificate to Tim Beechuk, but if you can also email me directly, I'll have your information on file when we start to rally the troups!

And last but not least, we get to Autocross tomorrow!!  See everyone at registration!

Note from the RE

This past Wednesday evening, I hosted a Facebook Live session where I reviewed some survey results from the 2018 season and discussed several issues that are often commented on by competitors including why we do double headers at Farm Show, why it’s not that easy to have 4 heats instead of 3 (hint: the number of workers required), hot (or luke-warm) worker swaps, and a lot more. We had a good hour of questions from members that were also addressed live. It was very successful (and fun!) and can be seen in the Facebook group at the link below. We’ll be doing more of these in the future, so watch Facebook for those announcements.

FACEBOOK LIVE VIDEO

Lots going on for the club right now – Road Rally and Cars and Coffee (thanks to Lisa Leathery’s hard work), fruitful new venue searches for both autocross and a fledgling Tire Rack Street Survival program (thanks to Melissa Mauro’s hard work), and handful of region members signed up for Solo Nationals coming up in September. Our region is doing great things, but please remember that it is all member-driven. If you want to see something happening that isn’t already, step on up and let’s talk about it. We don’t bite (too hard!).

Autocross Events 9 & 10 Happening Tomorrow

by Kristen Poole
Well, tomorrow we’re back at it for another Farm Show double header. Here’s hoping the rain tonight doesn’t dampen our spirits tomorrow (pun intended!). If you’ve run with us this year, you know we’ve been testing some tweaks to the program, and we’ll continue that trend tomorrow. We’ve got one last double header for the autocross program at Farm Show in September, but, the venue committee has been hard at work and we have at least one lead that may even give us a non-points event to run sometime in October. So stay tuned for that announcement in the near future.

In the meantime, you might as well sign up for the September events now. We are expecting a larger-than-normal turnout for the event, marking our last at the Farm Show for the foreseeable future. Event cap is currently set at 120 each, so don’t wait too long!

Season Finale Coming Soon!

by John Roscinski
THE END IS NEAR....of the RallyCross season.

If you couldn’t tell, the final event of the points season is quickly approaching. If you’re in the running for a trophy, register now to secure a better grid spot than your competitors. The earlier you register, the less bushwhacking you’ll have to do. It could mean the difference between winning one of those sweet jackets or not! At any rate, the competition is bound to be fierce!

See you in the dirt!

Announcing Two New Region Events!

By Lisa Leathery

Event 1 - Cars & Coffee

To be held in the Radisson parking lot adjacent to Rt. 11 across from the McDonalds.  Official address is: Radisson Hotel Harrisburg, 1150 Camp Hill Bypass, Camp Hill, PA 17011

Date:  August 25, 2018
Time:  9am to 11am

Save the Date – more details to follow.  Watch for more information on Faceook

Event 2 - Road Rally to be held in Fulton County

This Road Rally will be set up as a Social Event GTA style, Game, Tour and Adventure / Gimmick rally that does not have a TSD element associated with the event (average speeds / checkpoint timing).  Scoring will be based on your ability to correctly answer questions about things that you see along the rally route and stay on course. You will need a navigator (this would be a wonderful opportunity to get a younger child involved).  For our first attempt at a Road Rally we wanted it to be fun, no stress an enjoyable day in our car with family and friends. We will be using part of the Frontier Barn Quilt Trail this area is very scenic and will provide a country road setting for the road rally.

Save the Date:  Saturday, October 6, 2018 - Fulton County, McConnellsburg, PA

Block the day:  the rally will start late morning (drive time to McConnellsburg from Harrisburg is approximately 1.5 hours.  The Rally will take approximately 2 hours and then we will have some social time after the conclusion. Your drive home time added will consume most of the day.

Note:  we will be looking for a few volunteers to help with the check point stations and final scoring.  If interested please contact Lisa Leathery, lisa@eventsandproductions.com

More details to follow as they becoming available.

Susquehanna Region Brass Attack Pocono

by Alan Lesher
June 14, 2018, Track Night in America at Pocono happened on the 2.25 mile road course.  Many members of our leadership team were there.  Kristen Poole, RE,  and  Melissa Mauro, Editor, The Squeal, and TRSS Development Chair, drove Kristen's Subaru.  Doug Austin, Assistant RE, continued to break in his modified Mini the right way.  Alan Lesher, Treasurer, drove his Firebird American Sedan after being granted a race car waiver.  Brian Holmes, Secretary,  and board member, Bryan Roper drove Holmes' modified BMW.  We had a quorum and we had a good time.

The track layout for TNiA uses the front straight from pit out to just beyond pit in, the North infield, a portion of the short chute between the tunnel turn and turn 3, the entire tunnel turn and Long Pond straight to the South infield entrance as well as the South infield, all going clockwise.  There are 9 turns.

Speeds over 120 are normal.  Anyone interested in a track experience under SCCA rules and insurance should check this out on the SCCA website.
