We reached 19,000 registered Eco-Schools in England, 15,000 followers on Twitter and welcomed 75 newly registered schools during their week off- now that’s dedication, thank you! Get ready for an exciting Spring T2, we have plenty of national calls to action for you to work on including an international Eco-Schools competition on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. So, enjoy the March sunshine, put your feet up and read on… We are encouraging all 5.5 million Eco-Schools pupils in England - and 20 million globally - to take part in the largest ever school litter pick on 22nd March, focusing on crisp packet litter. We have lots of resources to help with your clean-ups. Plus, every school who registers will have the chance of winning £1,000 of Wilko vouchers for their school, and a day’s filming with us to celebrate their Eco-Schools work for the #GBSchoolClean. This March why not take part in the Pod’s exciting citizen science campaign What’s Under Your Feet spring and summer digs as evidence for our Biodiversity topic. Help scientists at the British Trust for Ornithology understand the relationship between climate, the availability of invertebrates and how this impacts UK bird numbers and their migration patterns. All schools who submit their #WUYF dig data will also be entered to win a camera nest box and other wildlife goodies. Get 100% charged for the Big Battery HuntNeed an action for our Waste topic? Then join the 3,400 schools who have already recycled over 4 million used batteries with the Big Battery Hunt. Register for your free pupil boxes, school container and collection service. By taking part your school could win a 2-night class trip to the Sustainable Centre, £2000 worth of school equipment and more. All Eco-Coordinators from the 67 countries currently running the Eco-Schools programme are invited to develop and submit lesson plans that promote one or several of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The winning Eco-Coordinators will be invited to attend the 25th International Eco-Schools meeting in the Netherlands this November. Find out more and download the SDG lesson plan template.
