Enthusiastic teams of martial artists recently merged at Chula Vista's Parkway Community Center Gym for the annual USA & Mexico Friendship Tournament. The excited participants demonstrated skills, courage, and focus while representing Tang Soo Do schools from Arizona, Utah, Mexico, and California. The event was hosted by Master Larry Dercole and Master Leslie Salinas of Tang Soo Do Karate Institute, who also happen to be the instructors of UDA's Wednesday Karate program. No SchoolAs a reminder, the school and office will close on Monday, May 28 in observance of Memorial Day. RockSTAR, Stellar Student, and Coffee SocialPlease join us on the morning of June 1 for an exciting series of events! Beginning at 8am, our RockSTARS of STAR Education will take the Patio stage, followed by Stellar Student Awards at 8:30am. Finally, our monthly coffee social will begin around 8:45am in the Hive. Buy One, Get One Free Book FairTuesday- Open from 7:30am-9am / 2:30pm-4pm The final Scholastic Book Fair of the year begins this week. The “Buy One, Get One Free” fair will take place from May 29- June 1 in the library, and we are looking for volunteers to help with set-up, clean-up, and book sales. Our middle school ASB has an exciting, theme-filled week lined up for all students this week. Students who do not wish to participate may arrive to school in uniform. On the day of the talent show, student performers may arrive to UDA in a school-appropriate costume provided that it does not pose a distraction for the student in class. Middle School DanceThe final middle school dance of the year will be held this Friday, June 1 from 5-7pm at Ideate High Academy (232 W. Ash Street). We hope to see our 6th-8th graders there! STAR After-Care RegistrationRegistration for STAR After-Care is now open for the 2018-2019 school year. Registration packets are now available at the front desk. Yearbook OrdersFrom friends and fun to classes and clubs, the 2017-2018 UDA Yearbook captures it all! To purchase your yearbook for $25, order online through June 6, or in the UDA office from June 7 through the last day of school. To purchase a yearbook online, go to yearbookforever.com and enter our school name. If you would like to pay using check or money order, bring this form and payment (made out to Urban Discovery Academy) to the front office beginning June 7. Pre-paid yearbooks will be sent home with students on June 7. Sixth GradeOur 6th graders had a blast building and launching rockets, learning about the atmosphere and gases, and exploring micro-gravity while at AstroCamp in Idyllwild last week. In addition, they enhanced their team-building, coordination, and trust in one another through a zipline and ropes course! Thank you to our 6th grade parents- Mr. Rivera, Mr. Goehring, Mr. Gaston, Ms. Stump, and Ms. Priola for chaperoning the trip! Camp Urban SolThis summer, the UDA Foundation will once again host Camp Urban Sol, an assortment of half-day courses taught by credentialed teachers. Participating students will continue to learn over summer through hands-on activities, experiments, community adventures, and play. User accounts from last year do not carry over, so all parents must register for the 2017-2018 year. To register, click on “Order Online Today” from the homepage, then select “Register.” On this page, you will need to enter the password for UDA, which is URA6. Upon entering the password, you will be able to complete the registration process by creating your own username and password. Families that meet the free or reduced qualification according to this form will receive discounted Top Notch lunches. The discount will be automatically applied to each order. Online orders must be placed by 6pm on the day before the lunch delivery. Top Notch can not supply lunches requested after this deadline. Reporting AbsencesPlease remember to report student absences by 9:00 am on the day of your child’s absence.
