The week starting 30 October 2017 saw 182 EVs registered - the highest number in a single week and there were 430 EV registrations in October – the highest number registered in a single month. The Government’s target of 4,000 EVs by the end of 2017 was passed in July and we are well on the way to achieving the target of 8,000 EVs by the end of 2018. Europcar adds pure EVs to fleet Europcar NZ now offers 100% electric vehicles for rent in Auckland and Christchurch. Earlier this year Europcar was granted nearly $200,000 in funding under round two of EECA’s Low Emission Vehicles Contestable Fund. The Fund is part of the Government’s programme to double the number of electric vehicles every year to reach 64,000 by 2021. Europcar’s vision is to lead the charge in green motoring solutions and promoting sustainable tourism. General Manager Europcar New Zealand, Stephen Jones says the new electric fleet reinforces Europcar’s long-term strategy by embracing the fast-changing nature of motoring and its inevitable lean towards green technology. Want to ditch that expensive and tedious taxi from the airport and drive yourself in a smart Audi A3 instead? Electric car share company Mevo is trialing a new one-way service allowing members to pick up or drop off cars between Wellington Airport and the company’s Queens Wharf location. They are interested in larger organisations where staff regularly travel between Wellington Airport and the CBD. Contact phil@mevo.co.nz for more information. Mevo is supported by EECA’s Low Emission Vehicles Contestable Fund. In the news We all know electric cars are fun to drive and cheap to run and we're working hard to get that message out to everyone. EECA is running a series of articles about a family’s own experience of owning an EV and why it works for them. The first article is here and the second is here. We’ve also pulled together our videos into one channel on YouTube. Please share content with your networks and drop us a line if there’s something you’d like.
