Helping people boost mobile signals indoors

People who struggle to get a good mobile reception indoors will be able to buy a wider range of devices to help improve the signal they can achieve, under new rules announced by Ofcom today.

Indoor mobile repeaters – sometimes referred to as ‘signal boosters’ – are devices typically used in residential properties to amplify a mobile signal.

In 2018, we authorised the use of mobile repeaters, provided they met certain technical requirements.

We will amend those requirements in early 2022, to increase the range of devices people can buy and use legally. As well as providing more choice for people looking to boost their indoor mobile signal, this could also potentially bring down the cost of devices.

We will not endorse or approve specific products; but to help people find legal mobile repeaters, we will publish a list of devices on our website that we understand comply with the technical requirements.

Helpu pobl i chwyddo signalau symudol dan do

Bydd pobl sy'n ei chael yn anodd derbyn signal symudol dan do yn gallu prynu amrywiaeth ehangach o ddyfeisiau i helpu gwella hynny, o dan reolau newydd a gyhoeddir gan Ofcom heddiw.

Mae troswyr symudol dan do - y cyfeirir atynt weithiau fel 'chwyddwyr signal' - yn ddyfeisiau a ddefnyddir fel arfer mewn eiddo preswyl i fwyhau signal symudol.

Yn 2018 gwnaethom awdurdodi'r defnydd o droswyr symudol, ar yr amod eu bod yn bodloni gofynion technegol penodol.

Byddwn yn diwygio'r gofynion hynny yn gynnar yn 2022, er mwyn cynyddu'r amrywiaeth o ddyfeisiau y gall pobl eu prynu a'u defnyddio'n gyfreithlon. Yn ogystal â rhoi mwy o ddewis i bobl sy'n dymuno chwyddo eu signal symudol dan do, gallai hyn o bosib ostwng pris y dyfeisiau.

Ni fyddwn yn dilysu nac yn cymeradwyo cynhyrchion penodol; ond er mwyn helpu pobl i ddod o hyd i droswyr symudol cyfreithlon, byddwn yn cyhoeddi rhestr o ddyfeisiau ar ein gwefan yr ydym ar ddeall eu bod yn cydymffurfio â'r gofynion technegol.
