Call out for Older Adult Advisory Group Applicants!
Our Older Adult Advisory Group (OAAG) was established two years ago to assist with improved library collections, programs and services for adults 55 years and older. OAAG meets four times a year to help advise the library on how best to serve the city’s growing senior population with its unique and diverse needs. We’re looking for new OAAG members this September. Apply online or return your printed application form to Karen Cafarella, Community Outreach Supervisor, at the main library. We look forward to accepting applications and gaining your valuable input into older adult visions for Guelph Public Library in the future!

Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health & Rabies
The raccoon strain of rabies is back in Ontario. Hundreds of raccoons and skunks have tested positive for rabies since December 2015. Rabies is a fatal disease that can affect any mammal, including humans. Raccoons, skunks, foxes and bats are the most common carriers of rabies and can spread the virus through their saliva, usually through a bite or a scratch. How can you protect yourself, your family and pets? - Vaccinate your pets against rabies. Talk to your vet for more information.
- Stay away from all wild animals including raccoons, skunks, foxes, and bats.
- Teach your children to stay away from wild animals and unfamiliar pets – even if they look friendly.
- Keep an eye on your pets when they are outside and keep their food dishes indoors, to avoid attracting unwanted animals.
- Bat-proof your home.

Donor Spotlight: Guelph Newcomers' Club
The Guelph Newcomers' Club welcomes women who are new to the Guelph area, acquainting them with their new city and promoting friendship among members. The group connects with others and the community, and members enjoy a variety of activities - one of which is a book club that has been running for many years.
“We started small, with just a few members and we were able to access the Guelph Public Library for our reading requests, or borrow from each other. However, over the years, our group has grown enormously (two groups of 15 each) and we are so very grateful that the library now has a growing collection of book club sets. This enables each group member to read the same book at the same time.” Throughout the years, the members of the Guelph Newcomers’ Book Club have remained valued and enthusiastic supporters of the Guelph Public Library – generously donating funds towards the library. “We felt that the least we could do to show our support and appreciation, is to donate…and keep our reading passion fulfilled.”
Guelph Public Library thanks the Guelph Newcomers' Club for their ongoing support of the library, and for their tremendous passion towards our book club services!
