Click here EXHIBITION A photographer for 30 years, Kazem Hakimi's recent work creates a community portrait of Oxford. The photos on display at both the Old Fire Station and Modern Art Oxford invite us to share the intimate moments of emotional connection between the subject and the artist at ease in each other's company. NEWS Himid's Invisible Strategies showed at Modern Art Oxford between 21 January - 30 April 2017. Containing many works shown for the first time in decades, alongside pieces never-before seen in a public gallery, the exhibition highlighted Himid’s consistently thought-provoking and distinctive visual style. WORKSHOP “We can go to African life and get a certain amount of form and color, understanding and using this knowledge in development of an expression that interprets our life.” —Aaron Douglas An interactive workshop hosted by the Founder of Oxford’s African School Natty Mark Samuels. The workshop celebrates and explores the dynamic work of Aaron Douglas, often described as the Father of African-American art. EXHIBITION - COMING SOON This unconventional exhibition uses the gallery as a public studio to bring the future creatively into being through art, design and events. Inviting your participation, it asks that you come with an open mind to imagine alternative future possibilities for city life in Oxford. FILM In an ongoing collaboration with the Ultimate Picture Palace, Oxford’s only independent cinema, we present three classic films, Koyaanisqatsi, Akira and Modern Times, all of which tie into the theme of our upcoming exhibition Future Knowledge. WORKSHOP Photographer Julian Benjamin leads a two-part workshop using the medium of photography to make sense of the environments we inhabit. The second part of the workshop will take place at the Old Fire Station on Saturday 10 June. EXHIBITION - COMING SOON Modern Art Oxford and Tate Liverpool jointly present chapters from Aleksandra Mir’s new work Space Tapestry. Inspired by the Bayeux Tapestry and the artists who depicted Halley’s Comet in 1066, it is a large-scale hand-drawn monochrome wall hanging which forms an immersive environment. Much like a graphic novel, Space Tapestry tells an episodic visual story of space travel. Space Tapestry: Faraway Missions will be on show at Tate Liverpool between 23 June – 15 October. Modern Art Oxford Recommends... The Legacy of St Ives: Past and Present Led by the Zuleika Gallery and part of Oxfordshire's ArtWeeks, this pop up exhibition showcases works by some of the leading artists working and associated with St Ives from the early 20th Century to the present day. The exhibition will include works by artists who were leading figures in the St Ives movement and are now considered to be key figures in the forefront of the British avant-garde. Modern Art Oxford Recommends... iCreative A free and innovative programme of training and mentoring for young creative talent (15-24) looking to work in the local creative industries. It is aimed at young people with creative talent who are not clear on their next steps. The initial programme covers 3 main disciplines: digital video production, sound recording/engineering and graphic design. The aim of the project is to train young people, mapping out further opportunities and employment pathways into the creative sectors. |
