APRIL IMMUNISATION UPDATE

IMMUNISATION NEWS THIS APRIL

  1. Influenza 2018 - Influenza vaccines are to be released in early April 2018. The Australian Government has announced the components of this year’s Southern Hemisphere flu vaccines.
  2. AusVax Safety - General practices are encouraged to enrol in SmartVax, a free, automated vaccine safety software monitoring system. 
  3. Zostavax - Zostavax® is available nationally and the vaccine is readily accessible to immunisation providers. GPs are asked to promote the program and ensure people 70 to 79 years old are protected against shingles.
  4. HPV Vaccine Gardasil®9 on the NIP - The National Immunisation Program will adopt a new HPV vaccine in 2018, which protects against nine types of HPV in a two-dose schedule. 
  5. Interim NSW Immunisation Schedule from 1 April 2018 - HPNSW has developed an Interim NSW Immunisation Schedule that is available on the NSW Health website from 1 April. 
  6. Request for vaccine exemption - The Commonwealth Department of Health has recently released information relating to eligibility for medical exceptions to immunisation.
  7. Q Fever - new online learning module - The 'Q Fever - Early Diagnosis and Vaccination' online learning module is now available for GPs.
  8. Catch up vaccinations - Tips for Catch Up Vaccinations and useful links for Catch Up Schedules.
  9. Pneumococcal vaccine for over 65s - Low rates reported for pneumococcal vaccine administration for over 65s.
