Texas Home Visiting supports communities in implementing evidence-based home visiting programs while creating a coordinated, comprehensive system of services for pregnant women, young children, and their families. Currently Texas Home Visiting offers free, voluntary programs in more than 40 counties.

Leadership Corner

As Texas Home Visiting looks ahead to its merger with the Prevention and Early Intervention Division of the Department of Family and Protective Services, we are pleased that the top leadership positions for the new division have been established. DFPS Commissioner John Specia announced on February 3 that Sasha Rasco will lead the merged PEI division as Assistant Commissioner. Sasha has been Director of Prevention and Early Intervention for DFPS since 2013. Commissioner Specia also announced that Sarah Abrahams will join PEI as Deputy Assistant Commissioner. Since 2013, Sarah has been director of the Health and Human Services Commission's office of Health Coordination and Consumer Services where she oversees the Texas Home Visiting program and other early childhood activities. Community Impact Meeting

Coalitions Work to Build Systems

Sixty-five contractors and coalition members attended THV's Community IMPACT Meeting in Arlington, February 17-19. The purpose of the meeting was to give THV contractors and members of their early childhood community coalitions exposure to nationally known experts on coalition building, collective impact and sustainability. Pinwheels for Prevention

In April and throughout the year, the Prevention and Early Intervention Division of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services and THV encourage individuals and organizations to help make communities in Texas safer for children and families. It's not too early to begin planning for Child Abuse Awareness Month and Week of the Young Child. Together we can make a difference in our communities by promoting children’s physical, social, and emotional well-being and empowering parents with the skills and resources they need to care for their children. Continuous Quality Improvement Projects Taking Hold

Texas Home Visiting’s third year of continuous quality improvement (CQI) projects is well underway in eight communities across the state. Below is a snapshot of their “attrition of families” and “local choice” initiatives:

• The United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County’s attrition project is targeting the most productive, meaningful and cost-effective ways to keep families engaged and enrolled in the parenting programs.

• The United Way of Metropolitan Dallas’ (Dallas/Collin counties) attrition project is testing targeted strategies to curb families’ numbers of missed visits and ensure that families remain engaged throughout the duration of the program. The team’s local choice project is focused on testing and developing practices that generate high-quality family recruitment by addressing issues identified by the local home visiting programs as barriers.

Staff Spotlight and New Hires

Anna Yellamraju

Anna Yellamraju was chosen by her office mates for this issue's Staff Spotlight. Anna joined the Texas Home Visiting staff in September 2015. Anna is an IT project manager and works with program staff, agencies, community organizations and contractors to manage tracking of all IT projects.

Prior to IT Project Management, Anna worked for NPR (National Public Radio) and also hosted her own Radio show in Michigan.  Anna is married with 10 year old twin daughters, who are accomplished Chess and Piano players and ranked Top 10 in the US.  Anna loves to travel with her family and has been to Italy, France, Germany, England, Spain, Turkey, and Hawaii.
