A MESSAGE FROM SCOTT HARDY

Good morning everyone! I hope you had a FANTASTIC week! We're a week away from the end of the month—how's YOUR August going? It's still blazing hot many places, and we've got wildfires roaring in Arizona and California. One of our Managing Editors was evacuated, along with her family, in Northern California, but thankfully they're safe and sound right now.

Our girls are now in their third week of online schooling. They're still getting into the swing of things and it's interesting that the grumbling I heard last year when school started is the same this year when they're doing it from home. There is still stress about tests and quizzes and assignments. There are still complaints about school and friends, and a little drama between classmates that hasn't gone away with the kids being separated by miles instead of feet.

That's something I have to remember: school can still be HARD for my girls, even when it's virtual. Now, when they have a "boring" class, it's much easier to get distracted and they don't have the reward of seeing their friends and goofing around before or after. It's a Zoom meeting, then MAYBE a few minutes for a bathroom break or a quick drink from the fridge. That's IF the teacher ended on time and didn't start late.

We're letting our girls have virtual lunches with their friends, so they'll Facetime them and chat during lunch. That's helping to keep them going during the day. They know they've got a lunchtime coming where they can connect with their peers and build/maintain those friendships they aren't able to do in person right now. Do you have any tips to share for me?
