From the Kids Corner: Favourite Children's Books of 2017 2017 was another great year for children’s books. There were plenty of anticipated releases, such as Mark Twain’s 'The Purloining of Prince Oleomargarine', completed by Philip Stead, as well as out-of-left-field smashes like 'Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls' by Elena Favilli which has just spawned a follow-up (Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls 2). Here are some of our favourites from this year: 2. Pashmina by Nidhi Chanani – This graphic novel revolves around Priyanka, a girl whose mother moved them from India to America when she was very young. After finding a magical pashmina, Priyanka travels back to India to inquire about her family’s past. 3. XO, OX : A Love Story by Adam Rex- Rex, author of the great 'School’s First Day of School', brings us a love story between a smitten ox and a conceited gazelle. Funny, sweet, and unexpected. 4. When a Wolf is Hungry by Christine Naumann-Villemin – On the first page, a salivating wolf heads for the city to slay a city rabbit, because they taste so much better. Fortunately, the rest of the book trades in bloodshed for whimsy and heart. 5. After the Fall : How Humpty Dumpty Got Back Up Again by Dan Santat – After falling off the wall, Humpty Dumpty, now terrified of heights, must learn to overcome his fear and get back to his favourite activity: birdwatching. Happy reading and happy new year! |
