Communications Working Group meet for first time

The new LEADER Communications Working Group had their inaugural meeting in Perth on 25 April. The group is made up of people involved in delivering LEADER in Scotland, and is tasked with improving joined-up communications across the programme.

A number of actions were agreed at the meeting, including setting the ball running on preparations for promoting LEADER at this year’s Royal Highland Show.

The LARCs Working Group will have their first meeting on 15 May.

Accountable Bodies meeting

The fourth Accountable Bodies meeting was held on 26 April. Andrew Watson was invited to come along to the meeting as the new Director of the Paying Agency. He was keen to learn more about LEADER and to listen to the experiences of Accountable Bodies.

The discussion mainly focused around the work of the Service Level Agreement working group, including finance, LARCs, audit and monitoring aspects. The next meeting is likely to be held later in the summer.

Job vacancy - Orkney LEADER Assistant Project Officer

Orkney LEADER are looking for a part-time Assistant Project Officer to be based in Kirkwall.  

This is an exciting opportunity to join the LEADER team to take forward the delivery of the 2014 to 2020 LEADER Programme and the community element of the Fisheries Fund (EMFF). 

The closing date is 7 May 2017.

Diversification in full swing for Tyne Esk farmers

A Dunbar farm has been the first to benefit from the Tyne Esk LEADER pot specifically allocated for farm diversification.

West Meikle Pinkerton, owned by James and Kay Gilchrist, received funding last autumn for a holiday chalet fit out for disabled/less able holiday makers and their project is fully underway.

Forth Valley and Lomond LEADER LAG appoints Local Food & Drink Coordinator

Forth Valley and Lomond LEADER Local Action Group has appointed Ashley Robinson as a Local Food & Drink Coordinator to help grow, support, and innovate the local food system in the area.

A major focus of the role will be to create a Local Food & Drink Vision, Strategy & Action Plan for the Forth Valley and Loch Lomond area.

New Cooperation offer added

An organisation is being sought to lead an initiative to establish the production of brochures on themed tours to increase local participation and visitor footfall. 

Each brochure is to attract tourists on the route from Edinburgh/Glasgow, through to Inverness, Aberdeen, Dundee and back.

Volunteer seeks opportunity

Hilary Kalisch is hoping to visit Scotland this summer and is interested in volunteering in a community development capacity. Extending LEADER Innovation workshop highlights available

You can now get the highlights from the European 'Extending LEADER Innovation' workshop. The event took place in Brussels in February 2017. A number of action points came out of the workshop and there was agreement to form an innovation practitioner-led working group.

Declaration for renewing LEADER/CLLD for 2020+

The European Leader Association for Rural Development (ELARD) has published a declaration for renewing LEADER/Community-Led Local Development post 2020, and a vision for LEADER in 2027. The declaration was created during the ELARD conference held in Estonia in November 2016.

Green economy projects highlighted in new brochure

In a new publication you can find out about projects that have taken advantage of economic opportunities that are environmentally and socially sustainable.

The 'Transition to Greener Economies' project brochure has been published by the European Network for Rural Development (ENRD) and is now available to download online.
