WHY INFRASTRUCTURE MATTERS
Shippers should pay attention and lobby for investments.

The state of U.S. infrastructure is recognizably lacking by any number of measures. One of the more prominent groups who rate infrastructure, the American Society of Civil Engineers, gives it a barely passing D+, a grade we wouldn’t want our children getting through a class with.

But why is infrastructure investment important? Why should companies care about whether or not we've got fast internet, the widest highways or the most technologically advanced seaports? Because their very success and livelihood depends on it.

QATAR CHALLENGES
Seafreight, airfreight routing issues.

With the essential "blockade" imposed on Qatar by surrounding nations, airlines and steamship lines are challenged in finding ways to move cargo into and out of the currently isolated country. What if these complexes could be rebuilt as hubs for commercial drone activity?

An AJOT story summarizing the report can be found here, but click the link for the full OECD report.

THE END OF LONG-HAUL TRUCKING?
Volvo sees regional shift in equipment purchases.

For a host of reasons and for the longest time, long-haul trucking was the staple of the American supply chain. But over time, the widening of the Panama Canal, a shrinking driver pool and arrival of more options such as intermodal transport have created a paradigm shift. In an article in Truckinginfo, Magnus Koeck of Volvo hints that a shift may be underway.
