Similarly, if any friends of our current families are interested in enrolling a student, please remind them that all applications must be submitted by February 28 in order to be entered into the lottery. Meet Amanda NordquistWe would like to extend a warm welcome to Amanda Nordquist as she joins the UDA team as our new STEAM teacher! Ms. Nordquist recently moved to San Diego from Minneapolis, the city that she grew up in. She completed a BA from Portland State University, a teaching credential from Hamline University, and a Master of Education from the University of Wollongong in Australia. Ms. Nordquist has traveled the world teaching, has opened schools, written grants, and learned different teaching methods from cultures around the globe. Locally, she has taught science at La Jolla Country Day School and Washington Elementary School in Little Italy. Please join us in welcoming Ms. Nordquist! Online Uniform OrdersIf you placed an online order on or before February 5, your order will ready for pick-up at UDA on the afternoon of February 23. The window for online orders is now closed. Orders may not be placed until the next online ordering window opens; stay tuned for more information. ELAC MeetingOn Thursday, February 22, UDA’s English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC) will meet from 5-6pm in the conference room. The primary functions of this committee are to make recommendations regarding programming and supports offered by the school to English Learners, identify potential school-related challenges faced by students and families and offer resources, and increase the voice and participation of underrepresented families. This meeting is open to all families. We hope to see you there! After-School Snack CartThe after-school Snack Cart will be selling snacks every Friday afternoon at dismissal. Everything is just $1! All proceeds will support the 8th grade graduation ceremony. Stop by this Friday to grab your snack! Valentine GramsThe middle school ASB will be selling Valentine Grams at morning drop-off and afternoon dismissal from February 5-12. Send a Valentine message to friends, teachers, staff members, or your own children for a dollar each! The ASB will deliver the grams to their recipients on Valentine’s Day. Ideate Information NightIdeate High Academy would like to invite families to attend a school tour and informational session on Monday, February 12 from 6-7pm. This is a great opportunity to meet with administration, learn more about our high school’s programming, and ask questions. Please rsvp by emailing rhatch@ideatehighacademy.com. Third GradeThird graders have been researching the effects of waste on our environment and how our oceans are impacted by our daily actions. To better understand and solve the problem, students collected trash during their Beach Clean-Up and compared the trash found in our school neighborhood. Fifth GradeMs. Pehl's 5th grade class visited the Maritime Museum to enhance the students' understanding of what it was like to explore during the Age of Exploration and early America. The fifth graders explored the USS Dolphin submarine, the HMS Surprise, and the Star of India. Visual ArtsSecond grade students are creating batik designs on canvas bags and souvenirs from Mexico- including Frida hair and paper clips! Students in 5th grade are making dream catchers. User accounts from last year do not carry over, so all parents must register for the 2017-2018 year. To register, click on “Order Online Today” from the homepage, then select “Register.” On this page, you will need to enter the password for UDA, which is URA6. Upon entering the password, you will be able to complete the registration process by creating your own username and password. Families that meet the free or reduced qualification according to this form will receive discounted Top Notch lunches. The discount will be automatically applied to each order. Online orders must be placed by 6pm on the day before the lunch delivery. Top Notch can not supply lunches requested after this deadline. Reporting AbsencesPlease remember to report student absences by 9:00 am on the day of your child’s absence. To report an absence, you may call the main line at 619-788-4668 and press option #2 to leave a message, or you may send an email to attendance@urbansd.com.
