| New member: Yarra Valley Water |
Joining the SVP membership this month is Yarra Valley Water, Melbourne's largest retail water utility, providing essential water and sanitation services to more than 1.8 million people. Through a new shared value initiative, ReWaste, Yarra Valley Water is converting food waste into energy at a facility north of Melbourne. The biogas fuels an adjacent sewerage treatment plant with excess energy being exported to the grid as a green energy source. The initiative keeps water prices lower, while reducing landfill and cutting greenhouse gas emissions.
