Click here Spaces Available for Water and Wastewater Operations ProgramThe FNHA and BCIT have partnered to deliver a fully funded program for up to 24 Indigenous students interested in a career in water and wastewater operations and management. It's ideal for people who are already in the sector and want to formalize their experience or someone who might be interested in starting their career in the industry. The program is scheduled to begin in April. Fort Nelson First Nation - Tłúe ka’ǫdíhIn the winter of 2020, the Fort Nelson First Nation (FNFN) Department of Lands and Resources embarked on an initiative to re-establish a cultural presence at Tlu Tue (Maxhamish Lake). The project was supported through funding from the FNHA's Indigenous Climate Health Action Program (ICHAP). In this video, we see how the return to Tlu Tue, has become an important focal point for FNFN in efforts to reduce food insecurity and remain active stewards of a healthy territory. The camp will serve to host traditional fish camps for community use, and a base for climate and water monitoring. First Nations Drinking Water CompensationIf you lived on a First Nation that had a long-term drinking water advisory for more than a year, you may be eligible for compensation. This is an $8-billion settlement that includes compensation and commitments to fund construction, operation and maintenance needed to provide regular access to safe drinking water. The deadline to submit claims is March 7, 2023. Local Environmental Observer Network - Exploring our Relationship with WaterIn December of last year, we gathered to explore our relationship with water, discuss current issues as it relates to the waters in BC, explore stewardship of water, and share personal experiences as it relates to knowledge of water. The event was highlighted by a guest panel including Dr. Shannon Waters, Dr. Margot Parkes, and Malahat Nation Fisheries Coordinator Andrew Sheriff. Funding Opportunity: Community Emergency Preparedness Fund Disaster Risk Reduction - Climate Adaptation ProgramThis funding stream is to support applicants looking to reduce the risks posed by natural disasters and climate change. Funding would support eligible applicants in developing effective strategies to prepare for, mitigate and adapt to those risks. The application deadline is Feb. 24. BC Assembly of First Nations Water EngagementThe BC Assembly of First Nations is hosting an in-person water engagement session, including presentations on the Draft Safe Drinking Water Legislation, 2013 FNLC Water Rights Strategy, and facilitated discussions on water issues specific to First Nations in BC. The event will be hosted at the Fairmont Hotel in Vancouver on February 27, 2023, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. |
