Welcome to MTP Connection

Dear

Welcome to MTP Connection, MTPConnect’s monthly e-newsletter dedicated to the Medtech, Biotech and Pharmaceuticals (MTP) sector.

MTPConnect is the Medical Technologies and Pharmaceuticals Industry Growth Centre, charged with driving innovation, productivity and competitiveness in the MTP sector by focusing on areas of competitive strength and strategic priority. The ultimate goal is to create sustainable employment, growth and wealth for Australia.

Innovation is critical to the Australian economy, and the MTP sector is among the most innovative in the global economy. From my 30+ years in the sector, I know Australia’s MTP sector has all the hallmarks of the high-skilled and innovation-based economy Australian needs. However, a number of barriers are currently holding us back, including funding constraints, regulatory requirements, lack of collaboration and lack of commercialisation and business-management skills.

To ensure Australia overcomes these barriers to seize commercial and entrepreneurial opportunities, MTPConnect has been established as a not-for-profit organisation, distinct from government, to champion an industry-led approach to the development of the MTP sector. MTPConnect sits at the nexus of the sector and is in no way intended to be a replacement for existing industry bodies. Rather, our job - as an independent organisation - is to complement the work of all sector participants by creating opportunities for cross-sector collaboration.

In the coming weeks we’ll be introducing our 10-year draft Sector Competitiveness Plan (SCP), which will outline immediate actions to strategically set the sector on a course to commercialisation and global success. To fully explain the draft SCP and seek your input, we are hosting a series of events around Australia in July and August. If you would like to attend, please see the events listed out below.

I hope you will join us as we endeavour to build on the sector’s achievements and collaborate further to increas the global competitiveness of Australia's MTP sector.

Kind regards,

Sue MacLeman
CEO and Managing Director of MTPConnect
