New Legislation Promotes Equal Pay

A new state bill has been signed into law which will prevent employers from asking about workers’ wage and salary history. It is intended to encourage employee salaries that are commensurate with skills, qualifications, and experience, as studies show an existing gender and minority wage gap that can be perpetuated as people advance in their careers.

Employees v. Contractors: Are You In Compliance?

The state administration’s Task Force on Employee Misclassification has been stepping up oversight of how various employees are classified, increasing penalties for violations. Those can now include shutting down a job site when an employer violates state wage laws, or assessing a civil penalty of $5,000 per day. Reforms Coming to NJ Medical Marijuana Program

The Jake Honig Compassionate Use Medical Cannabis Act has been signed into law, dramatically reforming the state’s Medicinal Marijuana Program (MMP). Included in the bill is a clause prohibiting employers from taking adverse employment actions against employees solely based on their status as medical marijuana patients. The bill clarifies that nothing in the law requires employers to allow the consumption of medical marijuana during work hours or do anything that could result in the loss of federal funding.
