Rethinking Mental Health 6.0 final call for abstracts - CLOSING 19 July!
RTMH 6.0 is returning for another year of innovation around rethinking mental health. This years focus is a 'Whole of Health Approach to Mental Health'.

FluCARE – improving reporting and management of influenza outbreaks in RACFs

The Sydney Local Health District Public Health Unit (PHU) is currently piloting an application that allows RACFs to improve their identification, reporting and management of influenza outbreaks. If you have patients in RACFs participating in the pilot, you can register to receive notifications alerting you of influenza outbreaks as they are identified.

Lunch Box webinar: Black Dog Institute StepCare e-Mental Health Screening Tool

Be part of the national roll out and one of the first GPs in the central and eastern Sydney region to implement the Black Dog Institute StepCare e-Mental Health Screening tool as an ongoing presence in your waiting room. This evidence-based e-mental health tool allows your patients to self-screen in your waiting room using an iPad.

Alcohol use in pregnancy: new resource 'GPaskthequestion'

GPs are usually the first health professional to see a woman who thinks or knows she is pregnant. The 'GPaskthequestion' project aims to highlight the importance of asking all pregnant women irrespective of age, socio-economic status or ethnicity about their alcohol use.

Butterfly call out for practitioners and community services with an understanding of eating disorders 

With additional Medicare support for eating disorders coming into effect on 1 November this year, Butterfly Foundation is calling for services, practitioners and community service providers with an understanding of eating disorders to apply for inclusion on their referral database. The Butterfly National Helpline provides information, brief counselling, and referrals for anyone experiencing an eating disorder or body image issue and for people who care about them.

The repeated experience of trauma can result in a broad range of complex and life-long adverse health outcomes, and people who experience complex trauma have greater and interrelated support needs. Central and Eastern Sydney PHN is running a CPD event to explore some strategies to better support this vulnerable population.

CPD event: Pharmacotherapy for Alcohol Dependence

This session covers the medications used to manage alcohol detoxification and relapse prevention for alcohol dependent patients. This session is for GPs, practice nurses and other allied health clinicians working in primary care. It will assist them to understand the principles of detoxification, relapse prevention and aftercare for patients with alcohol dependence and will help equip them with the skills to identify, treat and/or refer for detoxification, manage relapse prevention and aftercare with their patients in the course of usual consultations.

MetroRehab Hospital - PD Warrior program

PD Warrior is an exercise therapy program specifically designed for people in the early stages of Parkinson’s Disease to enhance movement in order to make everyday activities easier. The program is delivered by certified PD Warrior clinicians and includes physical and cognitive activities to potentially help slow the symptoms of Parkinson’s. Patients have the option of participating in PD Warrior in a stand-alone exercise session, or as part of the day rehabilitation program that also focuses on improving the individual’s cognition and speech in addition to physical functioning. The therapy team comprises of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, exercise physiologists, a speech pathologist and a music therapist who all play a role in delivering the program.
