I hope that all of you have had a great Holiday Season and an even better New Year's! 2015 was a very busy year for the Firefighters Burn Institute with the move of our Firefighters Kids Camp to Camp Arroyo
in Livermore and the busy fire season with the subsequent burn injuries to some Firefighters. Recently, a Fire Captain reminded me how sometimes our name Firefighters Burn Institute can be a little confusing to the public. The common misconception here is that many folks believe that our charity only
helps burn-injured firefighters. In reality, our name has "Firefighters" in it because we are a charity that was founded and continues to be run by firefighters. We haven't had any programs that were specifically for burn-injured firefighters until very recently! Our programs encompass the whole burn community and the medical personnel that treat them which includes firefighters. Firefighters Kids Camp,
Little Heroes Preschool Camp and the Adult Retreat are a few examples of programs that were created for and are still open to the entire burn community. However, in order to address the very specific and unique experience of burn injured firefighters, the Liaison Response Team
was started roughly five years ago. The program provides assistance to firefighters and their families in the event that a firefighter is admitted to our burn unit at UC Davis Hospital. And just within the past few months, we started a Firefighter Peer Support Group which allows for firefighters who have gone through similar experiences to meet and support one another. Besides these two programs, all of our other programs and services are for anyone that suffered a burn injury. As we celebrate our 43rd anniversary
as one of the nation's top Firefighter-run burn foundations this year, we can't help but feel so grateful for all of the continued help and support that we have received from our community over the years. We are very proud of our history and all of the assistance that we are able to provide burn survivors. This would not be possible without you all. Thank you and wishing everyone a great 2016!
