UOW surges in prestigious global subject rankings
 

Engineering a standout in annual QS World University Rankings

UOW has strengthened its position on the global stage with the release of the prestigious Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings by Subject.

 

The 2018 data shows a strong improvement for UOW across the range of disciplines assessed, with the University achieving a rise in rankings in four of the five broad subject areas.

 

Engineering continues to be the top performer with the University ranked 24th in the world in the subject of Mineral and Mining Engineering, a boost of two positions from last year.

Global rankings recognise world-class business degrees

 

UOW's Sydney Business School has cemented its reputation for providing world-class education after a global magazine recognised its Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) as among the best in the world.

 

In its annual MBA rankings, CEO Magazine has ranked UOW’s Sydney Business School EMBA as the best in Australia and 30th best in the world, while the Master of Business Administration (MBA) was recognised as one of the top qualifications nationwide.

Molecular Horizons
 

A centre for Molecular and Life Sciences, with access for international researchers.

 

The molecular life sciences are at the forefront of scientific discovery, unlocking the innermost secrets of the cell and developing new ways to detect and attack disease. If cancer is to be cured, new classes of antibiotics developed, and Alzheimer’s disease reversed it will most likely be biochemists and molecular biologists powering these breakthroughs.

 

UOW’s new $80 million research facility, Molecular Horizons will be dedicated to making this happen – illuminating how life works at a molecular level and solving some of the biggest health challenges facing the world.

UOW researchers unveil new sodium-ion battery design
 

New battery materials provide pathway to mass-production of batteries based on cheap, abundant sodium.

 

Scientists from the University of Wollongong have developed prototype battery cells based on sodium-ion technology, which the university says can achieve excellent cycling stability and easily be scaled up to mass production.

Improving the Health of a Nation
 

Reducing the burden of chronic disease in sub-Saharan Africa by influencing public health policy on salt.

 

High levels of salt consumption around the world are contributing to rising levels of high blood pressure, which is one of the biggest contributors to cardiovascular diseases and stroke.

 

South Africa is the first country to mandate salt levels allowed in a wide range of commonly consumed processed foods. The policy – influenced by the research of UOW’s Associate Professor Karen Charlton.

Radiation detectors go global
 

Strong partnerships continue to grow with leading international radiation oncology departments benefitting cancer patients worldwide

 

At the forefront of the development of a suite of innovative radiation detectors for the treatment of cancer is the Centre for Medical Radiation Physics (CMRP) at UOW and its numerous research and clinical partners within Australia and overseas.

Strengthening partnerships in China
 

Prof. Alex Frino, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Global Strategy), Mr. Brett Lovegrove, Executive Director (Global) and Ms Jessica Sun visited China in March 2018.

 

The delegation visited twining partners for teaching collaborations, including Beijing Jiaotong University and Tianjin Polytechnic University, and renewed MOU with its strategic research partner Beihang University. The delegation then visited Shanghai University to formalise the partnership with MOU signing, and developed student exchange arrangements.

 
 
 
 
Materials science interest strengthens international collaboration
 

UOW signs Memorandum of Understanding with Tianjin University


A shared interest in materials science has led to a partnership between the University of Wollongong (UOW) and Tianjin University in China. Led by UOW’s Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences, the partnership focuses on research collaboration and student exchange.

UOW partners with South Korean city on sustainable food initiative
 

Slow life movement feeds international collaboration

 

A shared interest in local and sustainable food initiatives has led to a partnership between the University of Wollongong (UOW) and Namyangju City in South Korea.

Led by UOW’s Faculty of Social Sciences, the partnership focuses on the slow life movement and how local governments can promote healthy and sustainable food initiatives.

A delegation from Namyangju City, comprising the mayor and nine other members of the city’s sustainability divisions, recently visited UOW to formalise the partnership and explore opportunities for further collaboration.

UOW GRADUATES CELEBRATE IN SOUTH-EAST ASIA
 

More than 600 UOW graduates celebrated their graduation with family and friends in ceremonies in Singapore on Thursday 12 April and Malaysia on Saturday 14 April and Sunday 15 April.

Four ceremonies took place in two countries over three days. Ceremonies were held for PSB Academy, Singapore Institute of Management (SIM), INTI International College Penang and INTI International College and University, Subang Jaya and Kuala Lumpur. All students were welcomed to the UOW Alumni community, which now extends to more than 130,000 worldwide.

Annual event celebrates UOW’s diversity of cultures and students

 

It was a sea of colour and cultures as hundreds of students received a vibrant welcome to their new home.

 

The annual Welcome to Wollongong event is a celebration of the international and interstate students who have moved to Wollongong to undertake their studies.
