Parents’ Evening and Prize Distribution

Congratulations to all pupils and past pupils who received prizes and awards at the annual Parents' Evening and Prize Distribution; many thanks to all who were involved in preparing and running this successful event.  Our guest, Garrett Fennell, Chairperson of Temple Carrig School, spoke about the range of similarities and differences with The High School.  The evening was filled with music and discussion, celebrating the talents of current and past pupils in the areas of academic and sporting endeavour.  A wonderful evening was had by all.

HSD Unbeaten in All Ireland Schools' Championship

The High School Senior Boys' hockey team recently competed in the All-Ireland Schools' Championship, which was held in Dublin this year. The competition consisted of sixteen of Ireland’s best hockey schools.  In our first match, we played Villiers School, Limerick.  Backed on by our home crowd we won 2-1 with Alexander O’ Regan scoring the pivotal decider with less than five minutes left.  Jack Iredale also saved a penalty stroke early on to keep us in the game.  In our second match we came up against Methodist College, Belfast.  By half-time we were 4-0 up, but in the second half we couldn’t convert our chances to score with the match finishing 5-1.  In the final group game we came up against the reigning champions Banbridge Academy.  The group decider was a tense affair. With 10 minutes to go Will Anderson scored a much-needed goal to put us in front.  Due to goal difference we needed a win to progress to the semi finals.  In the dying minutes Banbridge got the equaliser, the match finished 1-1, and  Banbridge progressed.  As a team we would like take this opportunity to thank Mr FitzPatrick, Ms Rugg, and Mr Hosking for their continued efforts.

Form One Art Projects

Form 1 Art pupils have been busy designing and making these fantastic masks over the last few
weeks, completing them  in time for Hallowe'en.  Don't they look wonderful?  Well done, everyone!

Form One Outing to Larch Hill

Before the half term break, Form One pupils enjoyed a day together at Larch Hill, where they participated in many different activities including Paintball, Survival Skills, Grass Sledging, Team Building, Archery, Wall-Climbing, and a very exciting obstacle course.  It was a fun day and everyone had a great time getting to know their friends a little better. Thank you to Mr Giles and the team of form teachers who organised the day out and helped make it such a great success.
