Try signing up for the 4 Week Wellbeing Workout program starting 10 October 2019 in Rockdale with Mood Active. If you haven’t heard, Mood Active helps people get back on their feet using exercise! Each session combines 2.5 hours of motivation/resilience strategies and 60 minutes of fun exercise. It is therefore important that all GPs, whether participating on a hospital GP ANSC program or not, are aware of current practice regarding early pregnancy care, available models of antenatal care and hospital booking in processes. Free telehealth coaching program for older people with chronic disease CESPHN are currently sponsoring a FREE telehealth coaching program suitable for older patients with chronic conditions. The program integrates clients GP care with the monitoring of vital signs and the support and coaching from a telehealth nurse. Participation in this activity can be linked to your practice's QI PIP. Osteoporosis referrals and BMD requests now on HealthLink The Endocrinology Department at Concord Hospital and the Rheumatology Department at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital are pleased to announce that from Tuesday 27 August 2019 HealthLink enabled general practices can now start referring patients for the assessment and management of osteoporosis including BMD requests straight from their practice software. A Joint Conference on Obesity and Related Chronic Diseases The Australian and New Zealand Obesity Society (ANZOS), Australasian Society of Lifestyle Medicine (ASLM) and International Chair on Cardiometabolic Risk (ICCR) are hosting their joint conference on obesity and related chronic diseases from 16-18 October in Sydney. The conference will bring together a line-up of international speakers to deliver the latest in obesity research, clinical practice and public health policy. Event: Strengthening teamwork for chronic disease management Primary healthcare professionals in the Canterbury area are invited to attend a dinner event to network with chronic care teams working within Sydney Local Health District. CPD event: The Doctor's Role in Transgender Health Shortly after a leading gender-affirming Endocrinologist suddenly ceased practising, ACON, The Gender Centre and Dr Michelle Guttman-Jones (Alice Street Doctors, Newtown) collaborated to host a physician Trans Clinical Care Roundtable. An outcome of the evening identified the need for further GP training on gender affirming care; so that people who were previously seeing this endocrinologist can now see a GP instead if they prefer, as well as providing a public list of GPs providing gender affirming care. In response, as a partnership with ACON and key partners, CESPHN are offering a workshop for GPs on delivering transgender health in primary care settings on Tuesday 3 September at Canterbury Hurlstone RSL club. The event is open to non-members and those out of area, so please email Phoebe on p.chomley@cesphn.com.au, if you wish to attend, but are not a member. HealthPathways Sydney has also published two pathways to assist with appropriate referrals - LGBTI Support and Transgender Specialist Assessment, as well as the Transgender Health and Gender Diversity clinical pathway, to assist GPs in the CESPHN region. NDIS Reviews and Appeals Hurlstone Park At our education sessions, GPs and health professionals have not only been deepening their knowledge of the NDIS – they have also enjoyed the chance to network with their colleagues. “A great way to network and get to know who’s out there and for what reason.” – Aged care health professional. “Good opportunity for networking.” – Psychologist. Response to The Australian article, ‘Insurers snooping in health records’ The article ‘Insurers snooping in health records’ published by The Australian on 9 August contains incorrect information relating to insurance companies’ access to information in My Health Record. It is against the law for a life insurance company to access the My Health Record system for insurance purposes. Further, medical practitioners cannot use information from a person’s My Health Record for these purposes to share with insurance companies, regardless of whether the patient has provided consent. Criminal offence and civil penalties include up to five years in jail and/or up $315,000, for natural persons, and/or up to $1.5 million in fines for bodies corporate. Getting involved with the CESAHN Board of Directors is a great way to be the change you want to see. We encourage all CESAHN members to engage with our network and welcome the fresh energy and ideas that new faces can bring. Members are welcome to attend bi-monthly meetings at the CESPHN’s head office in Mascot and work with CESPHN on a range of services and topics. This may involve representation on other committees including the NDIS and guiding CESPHN staff on continued professional development topics that our members will most benefit from. Allied health forum Last Thursday, 22 August CESPHN had the pleasure of attending an Allied Health Forum with the Federal Minister for Health, the Hon. Greg Hunt and the Member for Reid, Dr Fiona Martin. The CESPHN Executive team, representatives from the EIS Health Board, Central and Eastern Sydney Allied Health Network, CESPHN’s Disability Network, Clinical Council and others participated in a round table discussion regarding issues pertinent to allied health in our region. Items discussed included: the MBS Review, the importance of early intervention and My Health Record. Dr Martin then facilitated a discussion around the NDIS which focused on issues such as complexity of assessments, remuneration, and issues relating to small business. The forum was received very positively, with Dr Martin expressing her desire to hold a similar event in the future. As of 17 July, we have updated our event registration process. Users can now register for events using two of the three identifiers - email address, mobile number or member number. This means that if you do not remember your member number, you can still register with the two other identifiers. You can also enter your mobile number to receive an SMS with your member number. Each event will be identified as a member-only event or open event. If an event is for members only, you will be prompted to either become a member or pay the event fee.
