Early pregnancy care? How to ensure you are providing up-to-date support and care

Most women will see a general practitioner to confirm their pregnancy. It is therefore important that all GPs, whether participating on a hospital GP ANSC program or not, are aware of current practice regarding early pregnancy care, available models of antenatal care and hospital booking in processes.

CPD event: The Doctor's Role in Transgender Health

Shortly after a leading gender-affirming Endocrinologist suddenly ceased practising, ACON, The Gender Centre and Dr Michelle Guttman-Jones (Alice Street Doctors, Newtown) collaborated to host a physician Trans Clinical Care Roundtable. An outcome of the evening identified the need for further GP training on gender affirming care; so that people who were previously seeing this endocrinologist can now see a GP instead if they prefer, as well as providing a public list of GPs providing gender affirming care. In response, as a partnership with ACON and key partners, CESPHN are offering a workshop for GPs on delivering transgender health in primary care settings on Tuesday 3 September at Canterbury Hurlstone RSL club. The event is open to non-members and those out of area, so please email Phoebe on p.chomley@cesphn.com.au, if you wish to attend, but are not a member.

HealthPathways Sydney has also published two pathways to assist with appropriate referrals - LGBTI Support and Transgender Specialist Assessment, as well as the Transgender Health and Gender Diversity clinical pathway, to assist GPs in the CESPHN region.

Response to The Australian article, ‘Insurers snooping in health records’

The article ‘Insurers snooping in health records’ published by The Australian on 9 August contains incorrect information relating to insurance companies’ access to information in My Health Record. It is against the law for a life insurance company to access the My Health Record system for insurance purposes. Further, medical practitioners cannot use information from a person’s My Health Record for these purposes to share with insurance companies, regardless of whether the patient has provided consent. Criminal offence and civil penalties include up to five years in jail and/or up $315,000, for natural persons, and/or up to $1.5 million in fines for bodies corporate.
