Here it is folks - the big move! March is here and we are getting ready to move into our new Southside Ballroom at 10586 81 Ave on April 1st. That's right, just down the road. We are very excited for our new space, which is larger and just as close. We will miss the old Ballroom, with so many memories held inside the walls. The Ballroom and Sugar Swing will keep posting on the website and Facebook to keep you updated as to when our move date is official.

Also this month, INVASION OF THE PLEX! The Lindy Hoppers are coming, and it's going to be a PARTY. Reminder to try stepping outside your comfort zone, trying new dance styles and dancing with new partners.

For our Feature Article we created a Code of Conduct for the club in order to help ensure Sugar Swing keeps being a welcoming, safe place to dance! Please take a look. 

We are also purging the lost and found before our big move.  All lost and found items must be picked up by March 31st as they won't be joining us at Sugar Swing's new home.  Please see below for details.

Practice Sessions

Saturdays at 6:00pm

Sugar Swing hosts practice sessions every Saturday! For a mere ~$5 drop-in fee (or $3 if you pay for the dance that night), keeners and enthusiasts of all levels can participate in an open practice session of 1 hour. Easy Does It Dance &
The Jump Session

The "Easy Does It" dance is similar to a Sugar Foot Stomp night, but with music being a notch slower. We'll play the occasional quick tune, but not so much.

Meanwhile, "The Jump Session" is tuned to be a notch faster than a Sugar Foot Stomp night, but we'll now have occasional slow tunes along with more mid-tempo tunes.

Rhythm is our Business - Tap & Lindy Hop Jam

The Jam will run like any tap jam night, everyone gets a turn to show their stuff, sometimes solo, sometimes together, there will be games and such too. We welcome you to come to the jam and dance Rhythm Tap, Solo Jazz, or partnered Lindy Hop!

The intention behind a Code of Conduct is to create a safe place for dancing to happen with far less room for misunderstanding, whether in class or at a social dance. It is also intended to be informative so that newer dancers can feel safe walking into Sugar Swing, and for all dancers to know what’s appropriate.

Mad Cat Swing

This swing dance performance group sends out 2, 4, or 6+ dancers to entertain or teach people at both private and public events, such as continuing care centres, schools, corporate events, birthdays, weddings, and festivals. You name it!
 
 
 

Private Lessons

Turlough, Krystal, Birkley, and Julie regularly offer private lessons from beginner to advanced levels, either in their home studios or at the ballroom. Contact them for yours!
 
 

Venue Bookings

The Sugar Foot Ballroom is available to rentals! It is also available for very-affordable rehearsal bookings in the $8-$18/hr range, and rentals in the $25-$45 range. Check out Rentals and Bookings.

Find 'em or Lose 'em!

We are purging the Lost and Found before we move. Everything must go by March 31 – we will NOT move your belongings to the spanking new Ballroom.

Examples of things you should reclaim or we will carry them away, never to be seen again (or in a rummage bin somewhere):

  • Sad Sweaters
  • Lonely loafers
  • Wailing Water bottles

If for some reason you are unable to come and retrieve your lost & found item(s), please contact the ballroom at dance@sugarswing.com or 587-786-6554 to make alternative arrangements.
