Click here ![]() Vol 26 No 22 16 Apr 2021 Senior Athletics![]() This week pupils in Forms 5 and 6 enjoyed participating in athletics track and field events while enjoying the some friendly competition in the fresh air during PE lessons. The school plans to hold other outdoor events for each year group over the coming weeks beginning with Form 3. We have scheduled two hours of track events followed by a barbeque for lunch. The afternoon session promises to be equally entertaining with field events including long jump and shot putt. We look forward to seeing each year group out on the sports fields with their friends. We would like to encourage as much participation as possible so please sign up for these events! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Form 4 Enterprise![]() Form 4 Enterprise groups enjoyed a presentation from successful Dragon's Den participant Julie Cobbe during the week. She was certainly at home in the classroom: it was when she was working as a resource teacher in a secondary school that she came up with the idea of Stylefish, a fashion school which boasts a range of high-profile clients. The pupils were inspired by her confidence and determination and found that the talk was a wonderful way to bring the Enterprise course to life. Mental Health CommitteeThe Mental Health Committee is made up of a group of pupils from Forms 5 and 6 who through various projects are working to create a more mindful and inclusive school community. We have most recently worked with Dr Claire Hayes a clinical psychologist in creating a series of short videos that address many different mental health issues and provide some practical advice. The first video in this series is available to watch (here) and it addresses some worries pupils may have had about returning to school. We hope to continue raising awareness throughout the whole school community about the importance and
availability of mental health supports both in the school and outside. Holocaust Education Trust of Ireland - Mary Elmes prize![]() Congratultions to Jessica Needham and Samuel Hutchison were awarded third place in the art and music categories (respectively) of the Mary Elmes prize. During the history module on the Holocaust this year pupils in Form 4 entered a competition for the Holocaust Education Trust in honour of Mary Elmes. We had to write a literary response, essay or create an artistic response to raise awareness about the Holocaust which was inspired by Mary Elmes and her story. Mary Elmes was born in 1908. She was an Irish aid worker who is credited for saving at least 200 Jewish childrens' lives during the Holocaust by hiding them in the boot of her car. We all learned a lot about her while we were working
on this project and it was very interesting. Summer Sports ProgrammeWe are so excited to welcome our pupils back to an array of extracurricular sporting activites after school. Our summer sports programme is a great way to connect with friends and develop personal fitness, so we hope that as many pupils as possible will sign-up to participate in the fun before Monday 26 April. ![]() Form 5 EnglishThis week pupils in Form 5 English will be watching a production of 'Eclipsed' streamed from Mill Theatre.
