Protest Sign Creation Station

A protest sign creation station will pop up in McWherter Library's rotunda. Any UofM community member can stop by and make a sign. Books and inspiration will be at the station, as well as other students, faculty, and staff to engage in conversation. You can make your sign and submit it to be displayed in McWherter Library's rotunda, or take it with you. Displayed signs will be returned to their owner. A Woman's Worth

This event is a table discussion that will include discussions about what it means to be a woman, self-love, knowing when to say no, and other topics. The F Word: Feminism

The F Word: Feminism will be a panel to talk about women, their safety and well-being in today’s social culture. There will be submitted questions from students at the beginning of the panel about whatever topics they want to speak about. The topics to be discussed will be decided by the people who attend and submit questions; however, there will be pre-written questions to guide conversation and ask panelists about specific movements (Me Too, Times Up) and issues pertaining to college campuses specifically. The event will have coffee and light refreshments.

The American Addiction: Pathways to Address the Opioid Crisis

Volume 48 of The University of Memphis Law Review invites you to its annual symposium that will analyze America’s opioid overdose epidemic through a “pathways approach,” recognizing that the epidemic derives from separate, dueling sources—legal and illegal.  The event will feature a diverse and dynamic roster of legal scholars, policymakers, and interdisciplinary practitioners who will examine issues pertaining to the pharmaceutical industry, healthcare providers, law enforcement, drug imports, the criminal justice system, public health, and more. 2018 College to Career Conference

The 2018 College to Career Conference will be taking place on Saturday, March 17th, from 9:00-2:00pm on the 3rd floor of the UC. There will be breakout sessions, mock interviews, and an etiquette lunch all accompanied by local professionals. Memphis Women's Summit

The Junior League of Memphis will be hosting the Memphis Women's Summit on March 22 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm in the University Center. The summit is designed to improve the Memphis community by educating and empowering women in the city of Memphis to be better leaders in their personal and professional lives.

A special opportunity exists for students, the Leaders of Tomorrow Track. Female students in their junior and senior year with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher can apply to participate in the full day of Summit events, networking and being mentored by a leader who shares their similar interests.

The Leaders of Tomorrow application can be found under the tickets tab in the top right corner of the website. Students should select 1 ticket for Leaders of Tomorrow and they will be directed to the application. Students will be asked to list volunteer and leadership positions while in college, how those experiences have impacted them (less than 200 words), and what their post-graduation plans are.

Rise Against Hunger

On April 4th, 2018, the School of Health Studies will be hosting a Rise Against Hunger (formerly known as Stop Hunger Now) event to help combat the worldwide problem of hunger and malnutrition. This non-profit organization aims to end world hunger by providing nutritious, low-cost meals to children living in poverty-stricken nations all across the globe. Specially, Rise Against Hunger organizes events in which volunteers prepare and package meals to be shipped, while donors financially support the cause by providing the funds necessary to pay for the foods to be packaged. To register as a volunteer or to donate, please complete the application.

Reminder of Parking on Norriswood

Student Government Association encourages students not to park illegally on Norriswood (the street in front of Centennial Place). Cars are illegally parked all day long and it is a hazard to pedestrians crossing the street and can lead to car accidents. It is a city of Memphis street and they have come out more to start ticketing.

Carson Circle

Carson's Circle is named for Dr. Donald K. Carson, former Vice President for Student Affairs at the University of Memphis. The award recognizes a select number of outstanding graduating seniors who exemplify Dr. Carson's ideals of making the university a better place through their involvement and leadership in campus life.

Nominees must be seniors at the University of Memphis who will be graduating in May, August or December of 2018. 

To be considered for this honor, students must be nominated via an online submission form, submit a nominee packet and obtain an additional letter of recommendation, which can be found online by noon on March 16, 2018.

President’s Leadership Recognition Awards

Each spring, Student Leadership & Involvement in conjunction with the Division of Student Affairs and the Office of the President hosts the President's Leadership Recognition Awards. This reception honors the University of Memphis' finest and brightest student leaders and organizations for their leadership roles and service. We present awards in 25 different categories, including the new inclusion of the UofM “20 Under 30” which will recognize 20 of the University’s most influential student leaders. Nominations for all awards are now open including such award categories as Program of the Year, Organization of the Year, Distinguished Service, Most School Spirit, Outstanding First Year of Involvement, Student Leader of the Year, Advisor of the Year and more. More information can be found online. All nominations are due by March 30, 11:59pm.

Women’s History Month Recognition

This year’s Women’s History Month these is “Nevertheless She Persisted.” Each year, members of the UofM community are encouraged to nominate outstanding women in their lives for recognition at the months’ closing ceremony (March 29, 4pm). This year we are asking students, faculty and staff to nominate women who have demonstrated a strong will for accomplishing her goals and who serve as a testament to this year’s theme. Power of We Diversity Scholarship

I am emailing you regarding the 2018 BlueCross BlueShield Power of We Scholarship. This diversity scholarship is a collaborative effort between the National Association of Health Service Executives (NAHSE) and BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee (BCBST). This is the sixth year BCBST has provided this scholarship. The purpose of this program is to help address the need for a qualified and more inclusive health care workforce in Tennessee. In total there will be three $10,000 scholarships awarded in two payments of $5,000 each over the course of two consecutive semesters. To access more information about  this scholarship, please visit their website. First-Year Student Research Survey

Researchers from the Department of Leadership would like to survey freshman students to study the effects of college-themed films on their expectations of college life. Student Event Allocation Proposal Submissions

Student Event Allocation (SEA) is a program that allows Registered Student Organizations to submit proposals for events & programs such as speakers, lectures, dance performances, etc. Proposals are submitted a semester in advance of the proposed program.  Fall 2018 Packets are now available via Tiger Zone and are due Thursday, March 15, 2018 at 11:59 PM. Tiger Talent Goes Green

Tiger Talent Goes Green is a one-day job shadowing program where undergraduate students in ALL MAJORS can earn $100 to explore careers in Renewable Energy Production, Energy Efficiency, Environmental Management/Recycling, Natural Resource Conservation or Environmental Compliance, Education and Training, and Public Awareness. For example, a Communications Major may shadow a Communications Specialist at a non-profit focused on reducing air pollution. Matched students will shadow the week of March 19 -23.
