This week, keeping families together means opening our arms to those escaping abuse.Escaping into Open ArmsA Family in CrisisThis week, we were blessed to be able to step into the gap between a family and an orphanage. Our cook in La Mision, Maricela, came to us eight years ago with a devastating story of escaping abuse and asked for our help. Recently, she came to us with a similar heartbreaking story, this time on behalf of her sister, and she once again asked for our assistance. Her sister had finally found the courage to escape with her four young girls from an abusive relationship. As a newly single mom, she had no idea how she would take care of her children, make a new life, and work to provide for her family. Our ears rang when we heard of her plight—it was like reliving Maricela's story all over again. Our hearts went out to these four sweet girls who have been through so much. We simply could not allow them to stay home alone caring for one another, susceptible to the streets while their mom worked hard to rebuild a healthy life for them. So, we have once again opened our arms and expanded our family in La Mision! Arleth (11), Arcelia (11), Esmeralda (8), and Sofia (5) are now in the daycare and thriving. Arleth and Arcelia are so sweet and they both like to play tag, and they are twins who are very hard to tell apart! Both girls like math and jumping rope. Esmeralda loves to play hide and seek. She is quieter than the twins, but she has a cute personality. Sofia, the youngest, has a bright personality that has already made her many friends here at Open Arms. We will be accepting more new kids at both campuses this month, so look out for more of their stories. And for just $25 a month you can help Arleth, Arcelia, Esmeralda, and Sofia look toward a brighter future, knowing Jesus and no longer in danger of being taken to an orphanage. If you would like to sponsor one, two, or all four of the girls click here! God bless you for all you do. Please keep us in your prayers. |
