No Images? Click here College activitiesThis week we will look at a handful of the activities you can look forward to when you join us. SportCollege sport is a great way to socialise, try something new, or keep going with a sport you already enjoy doing. There is no pressure to play competitively, although many college members do enjoy inter-college tournaments and our yearly Varsity fixture against the University of Durham. One in four Goodricke members play college sports, and many more attend as spectators. Netball, football and rugby are the most popular. If you don’t want to join a team, the college also offers regular fitness sessions, including Park Run on Saturday mornings. College LeadershipIf you don’t find what you are looking for in college, why not create it? Your college is there to support your ideas, and maybe even fund them. The college committees receive a programme of professional development, but this is open to all students. So whether you’ve got grand plans, or just want to make small changes, the college is there to facilitate your ambitions. "Being on the JCRC is a great way to be involved in the Goodricke College community. It means you meet new people and do things you didn’t you would otherwise get involved in!" Jack Woodruff, Wellbeing & Community Officer (2017-18) College VolunteeringThere are opportunities to volunteer and receive training as a college mentor, help out with social events, become President of a sports team and much more. Colleges also benefit from good links with local charities and organisations. You will be encouraged to get involved in giving something back to our lovely city. GoodfestAnd last, but not least - Goodricke is the home of the biggest college music festival: Goodfest. Organised entirely by the JCRC, you can expect the year to finish in style, with some big name acts. Previous artists have included Tinchy Stryder, Zak Abel and James Vincent McMorrow. What should I be doing now?If you haven't already, please complete the pre-arrivals survey and share your interests, ambitions or last minute questions before the 20th September deadline.. Also, make sure you've bought your freshers tickets - you don't want to miss out! We will email you again on Friday 13th September to talk about how colleges promote student wellbeing. In the meantime, remember to check the website for arrivals information. And if you missed one of our earlier emails you can catch up online.
