CEO Update -09/2020 Dear JOYster!Happy Intersex Awareness Day and ACE Week. We wish our very best to our Intersex, Asexual and Aromantic family members who are recognised through these important events. In my last message I mentioned how JOY is continuing to prepare for our multi media journey whilst navigating the COVID 19 experience. You will know that our entity name is JOY Melbourne Inc. and our business name is JOY 94.9 In the course of our work to embrace JOY's many new channels it's become evident to the leadership and Board of JOY that we need to rethink how we present ourselves to the community, through our business name. To this end we have looked at how we can bridge the journey from our early beginnings to this new world and have come to two suggested names for JOY that we would like to put to you for a vote. Each option has a business name, followed by a byline or tag. Noted below, the name is in red and the byline in italics. Can you please vote on the two names by midnight 29th October, to let us know your preferred option? Option 1 JOY Media - Independently Out Loud and Proud Option 2 JOY - Independent Rainbow Media Other NewsGiveOUT Day Thank youFriday 16th October was National GiveOUT Day and JOY participated, putting forward a project to enable us to include rural, regional and remote voices amongst our content offering. I am thrilled to announce that JOY raised $8,288 on the day PLUS a further $28,000 donated by a corporate friend (to be officially announced soon!). On behalf of us all a very big thank you to those who supported this project - together we are taking a huge step forward in building a more inclusive Australia. Kerrie and Dolly ShowJOY TV's inaugural program, the Kerrie and Dolly Show, has received further Government support to enable the show to run until December 2020. A very big congratulations to the K and D team who continue this important COVID response in keeping our performers employed and our community informed and entertained during this time. Building our Sales TeamWith the progress on developing JOY's services offering - Sponsorships, Memberships, Training, Podcasting and Production etc we are now ready to build our Sales Team to work on generating income for the organisation. Building the team was paused when COVID 19 struck, due to the drop off in sponsorship activity due to business lockdowns. As we now look to a brighter future, and note the momentum in our sales work returning, it's time to ensure we have the resources to rebuild this important income stream. I am delighted to announce that we welcomed Amy Barclay as our Sales Support Officer on Monday 19th October. Amy is an experienced sales support professional who comes to JOY from 3AW, to oversee the delivery of our sales contracts. Shortly, I will be advertising for a Sales Manager for JOY, which will be an ongoing role that is currently filled by a temporary contractor, Lucy Permezel. Lucy has worked with us since Radiothon this year, and worked on two projects: relocating to the Pride Centre, and redesigning our Sales systems. Lucy's work will set up our two new Sales people with the systems they need to provide a professional service to our clients. Recognising our talented TeamFinally, I am delighted to share that JOY has six finalists in the 2020 CBAA Awards and two finalists in the 2020 Globe Awards. We have proudly nominated our team members to these two award programs in recognition of the quality work that has been done at JOY, and on behalf of us all I wish our finalists the very best. They include: CBAA Awards Best special event broadcast: Mardi Gras Globe Awards With warm wishes to you, Ange Barry |
