Welcome to the inaugural ACORNS for 2017! While we were away, there were a number of new appointments in the sector: the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture has announced Mrs Rima Mismar as its new Executive Director;
Kristjan Thor Júlíusson has taken office as the Minister of Culture, Iceland; the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, Philippines has announced the appointment of poet, literary historian and National Artist for Literature Virgilio S. Almario as its new Chairperson; and
in Romania, Ionut Vulpescu has been appointed Minister for the new Ministry of Culture and National Identity.
For those seeking fresh adventures in 2017, there are a number of international opportunities that could make for an interesting and productive year. Acción Cultural Española are calling for applications to their visitors programme
which invites professionals and programmers in the fields of arts and culture to Spain to establish networks and experience the sector first-hand; the Ministry of Culture and Communication in France are calling for applications for their upcoming seminar
designed develop professional networks between France and other countries; and if you are after a more cerebral adventure, ENCATC are seeking submissions for the 7th volume of their Journal of Cultural Management and Policy, which stimulates debates on topics of cultural management and policy among scholars, educators, policy makers and cultural managers.

Se publica el informe sobre la 7ª Cumbre Mundial
En octubre de 2016 los ponentes y delegados de la Cumbre Mundial exploraron el tema ¿En la encrucijada? El liderazgo cultural en el siglo XXI y abordaron diversas cuestiones de importancia. El Informe de la Cumbre ofrece una visión general de los aspectos más destacados del programa, la participación y los temas clave de la 7ª Cumbre Mundial de las Artes y la Cultura. Actualmente está disponible en español
y inglés, y pronto estará disponible en portugués, gracias al generoso apoyo de nuestro colaborador, la Organización de Estados Iberoamericanos (OEI).

IFACCA participates in UNESCO Convention IGC Meeting
In December, European Coordinator Diane Dodd represented the International Federation of Arts Councils and Culture Agencies in a dialogue of civil society observers with the Intergovernmental Committee (IGC) for the UNESCO 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions in Paris.

Crece un 8,8% el número de visitas a los Museos Estatales gestionados por la Dirección General de Bellas Artes y Patrimonio Cultural

Los 16 Museos Estatales gestionados por la Dirección General de Bellas Artes y Patrimonio Cultural del Ministerio de Educación, Cultura y Deporte han registrado un total de 2.810.397 visitas en 2016, un 8,8% más que en 2015 (2.582.121 visitas). Los datos confirman la tendencia de crecimiento sostenido y se apoyan en una programación de calidad. Además, hay seis museos que han obtenido su máximo histórico de visitas: el Museo Nacional de Escultura de Valladolid, el Museo Cerralbo, el Museo Sorolla, el Museo Nacional de Antropología, el Museo Nacional de Cerámica y Artes Suntuarias y el Museo Casa Cervantes.
