NWTD News - September 2023 The North West Transmission Developments (NWTD), being progressed by TasNetworks, include 240 km of new and upgraded transmission lines and other energy infrastructure that will increase the capacity of Tasmania's electricity network. The developments will enable Tasmania to become a world-leading renewable energy provider and support the decarbonisation of Australia. Watch explainer video IAP2 Awards Finalist 2023We are excited to share that TasNetworks has been named as a finalist in the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) Australasia Core Values Awards 2023. TasNetworks’ award submission centres around efforts by the NWTD team over the past two years in recruiting, establishing and facilitating a NW region Youth Panel to develop a collaborative, co-designed and youth-centred approach to community benefits sharing. Inspiring the next generation of engineers and scientists in the North WestThe NWTD project is proud to contribute toward the next generation of scientists and engineers in North West Tasmania by sponsoring prizes for Burnie Works’ Big Science Fair 2023, held earlier this month. There were 172 imaginative entries from grades 5 to 12. Our Regional Engagement Coordinator Sonya attended for judging and also presented the TasNetworks sponsored prizes to the winners for Years 7 and 8. Congratulations to all the winners! Where we've been this monthOrganised by Housing Choices Tasmania and supported by TasNetworks, the Shorewell Community Twilight Market delighted attendees this month. It provided an opportunity to get together, support local producers and enjoy an afternoon of fun. Delicious food was served by Burnie Community House and with the sun shining the ice cream van was kept very busy! Our team appreciated the strong sense of community as they chatted with residents about the NWTD project. This is a crucial step in our commitment to protect Tasmania's threatened birds and iconic wildlife.Marinus Link Community Partnership ProgramWorking together, Marinus Link and the Burnie City Council have developed the Community Partnership ProgramThrough the Program, two successful applicants will receive $20,000 each year over three years, that’s $60,000 in total, to run a project/initiative in the Burnie area. The first round is now open and will close on 21 November 2023. Local suppliers wantedThe NWTD project has reached an important milestone with the Request for Proposal (RFP) opening on 28 June 2023 for a period of 16 weeks. Contractors that have been selected to proceed through to the RFP stage are required to demonstrate how they will be engaging locally and will be actively looking to work with local businesses and suppliers.
