Food glorious food

The Curator's Deli, along with Zen Sushi and Dumplings, will soon open their doors in the Registry Additions building next to Canterbury Cheesemongers. They all overlook Market Square that offers visitor parking and spaces to sit and enjoy your lunch.

Expected to open in July, the Curator's Deli will stock delicious delicatessen meats and small goods, European-style sandwiches and salads, meals, grocery items and wine. Zen Sushi and Dumplings is expected to open in August, with its freshly prepared meals. Both perfectly complement the Cheesemongers' array of local and international cheeses.

Great Hall strengthening earns praise

The incredible, yet invisible, strengthening that is part of the Great Hall's restoration has earned the magnificent building a spot in this year's Canterbury Heritage Awards.

The image above illustrates the comprehensive concrete and steel that now strengthens the Great Hall, hard right, and the remainder of the Clock Tower building. Most of most of this repair work is intentionally hidden so it doesn't detract from the beautiful heritage fabric of the buildings.

The Great Hall is a finalist in the Seismic Category of the Canterbury Heritage Awards, with the winner being announced on June 8.
