Looking forward to the second full year of operationalizing the transfer, the FNHA is pleased to launch its Summary Service Plan (SSP) for the 2015/2016 fiscal year. This SSP marks an exciting moment in the transformative journey underway for BC First Nations, the FNHA and its partners.

A focus will be on supporting another year of smooth operations while expanding FNHA's vision of transformation and innovation, enabled by its governance and other strategic partnerships. Strategic goals include:

1. Enhancing First Nations Health Governance;
2. Promoting and Implementing the BC First Nations Perspective on Wellness as a Health and Wellness Champion;
3. Improving Health Service and Programs as a Health and Wellness Partner; and
4. Strengthening the FNHA as a Sustainable and Effective First Nations Health Organization.

Verna Flanders, Mamalilikula-Qwe'Qwa 'Sot 'Em First Nation

Verna Flanders is one of the 35 First Nations Health Authority sponsored Residential School Survivors who made the trip to witness the closing events of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission this last week. The TRC is wrapping up 6 years of hearings resulting in the documentation of 7,200 stories from residential school survivors.

Verna is 73 years old and was flying for the first time in her life when she traveled to Ottawa.   Read Verna's Story

This year there are 112 ways to celebrate National Aboriginal day through health and wellness events being held on June 21st. Here are a sample of some of the activities:

• Traditional Medicine Scavenger Hunt

The purpose of this Guide is to outlin​e the general and program-specific terms and conditions, criteria, guidelines and policies under which the First Nation Health Authority (FNHA), First Nations Health Benefits (FNHB) Short-Term Crisis Intervention Mental Health Counselling (STCIMHC) Benefit and the Individual and Family Counselling component of Indian Residential School (IRS) Resolution Health Support Program (RHSP) operate.

As our population ages, Elder abuse has become a serious and growing concern. It exists in many forms, including neglect and physical, sexual, psychological, or financial abuse. As difficult as it is, the perpetrators can be caregivers, family members or friends.

Join us by wearing purple on June 15th, World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, to show that First Nations communities are united in the support of preventing Elder abuse.

Representatives from the three Island families, the FNHA, and Island Health at the ASIST training. 

With the shared goal of building capacity for our First Nations families around suicide prevention and intervention, the FNHA and Island Health partnered to provide ASIST Training for Trainers (T4T) May 11-15 on Snuneymuxw territory in Nanaimo. The opportunity provided twelve seats for three First Nation families on Vancouver Island:  Kwakwaka’wakw, Nuu-chah-nulth and Coast Salish Nations.

BC Early Years Centre Funding
The maximum annual funding available is $52,416 per fiscal year and Application submissions must not exceed this funding amount for that fiscal year. Administration fees must not account for more than 10 per cent of the annual total cost of the Application and are to be included in the $52,416 funding.

Contracts resulting from this Application process will be from the date of contract signing to March 31, 2017 with the option to renew at the sole discretion of the Province for an additional 4 one-year terms.

The deadline for completed applications is October 28, 2015.  Questions can be directed to EarlyYearsOffice@gov.bc.ca.
