Click here As the UK heads into a winter of restrictions and lockdowns we have at least had some good news this week with the announcement that a Covid-19 vaccine may be on the way. We're not there yet but the news from Pfizer in the US is certainly encouraging. As the year draws to a close, BSLM chairman Dr Rob Lawson has written a blog which sets out some of the key challenges we still face as we battle the global "syndemic". For while communicable disease may have topped the headlines in 2020 - we must not lose sight of the "other pandemic" of non-communicable disease. Study looks at impact of probiotic on Covid-19 patients A study looking at the effects a lactobacillus (probiotic) supplement on patients with Covid-19 is seeking to recruit participants. The Covid-19 nutritional intervention study is open to anyone who has had a positive covid test who still has symptoms. The randomised double-blind, placebo-controlled trial is being led by Prof Rob Thomas, BSLM2020 speaker and author of Keep Healthy After Cancer. All patient interviews will be carried out on the phone so the study is seeking to recruit from across the UK. Amy Din, a PhD student at the Macmillan Survivorship Research Group (MSRG), University of Southampton, is seeking to gather data about health professionals' preferences for training or education programmes.
