Dear Parents, The spirit of the season has arrived in force at QSI Chengdu. A big thank you to all our PSG volunteers for creating a wonderfully festive atmosphere at school. Befitting the season, we are looking at a series of performances in the next few days and weeks. Please keep an eye out for announcements. As is common at this time of year, one event literally chases the next. This past week alone we had several events taking place, most notably the middle and high school science fair. Seeing all the different projects, I was at the same time intrigued, amused, and fascinated. It is simply amazing to witness how our students apply scientific concepts to explore the world around them. I am also immensely proud of our staff who help develop and guide these young minds every single day. To witness children present a science project one day and then perform in a music performance or stage play the next is what I would sum up as Red Eagle Pride. Wishing everyone a peaceful and relaxing post-Thanksgiving week, I remain, Yours Sincerely, Dr. James W. Pilton Dear Parents, Friday night marked our first QSI Winter Performance as the 6-9YO performed beautiful songs from around the world. The concert ended with the song The 12 Days of Christmas that had all students jumping up and down as they sang out their part! A great big thank you goes out to our students, homeroom teachers and paras, and especially our great music teachers--Ms. Alba, Ms. Anne, and Mr. Wong--for making this first performance a great one! As many secondary students will be gone this upcoming week, it is a great time to continue our performances! On Wednesday, our 5YOs will perform their We're Making Music concert. Then, on Friday, our preschool performers take the stage. We look forward to seeing our performers' families there! This past week, our 9-10YOs took part in the QSI Science Fair and primary-school classes also celebrated a holiday from the United States: Thanksgiving. Many students put on plays or took part in classroom feasts. You can see all of this in the "Within These Walls" section of the newsletter. Only two more busy weeks until break, but with our fantastic students, parents, and teachers, these are sure to be two wonderful weeks! Sincerely, QSI Families, Happy Thanksgiving! We are in the middle of some of our biggest events here at QSI. After a very successful Fall Festival, 13YO Bonding Trip, and a Science Fair that included over 80 projects from our 9-secondary students, we are on to our winter performances. The middle and secondary performance won’t happen until December 6th. That is because many of our secondary students are gone this coming week for what will be a fabulous Week Without Walls trip to the Philippines. During the same time, secondary students not taking the trip will be participating in some worthwhile experiences here in Chengdu. Meanwhile, our 12s are also headed off on a bonding trip of their own. It will be a great week for our older students. I would like to take a moment to thank our terrific PSG parents. The decorations look lovely. The spelling bee words lining the halls are fantastic. I’m seeing 15th anniversary pennants hung with pride, and everyone loves their personalized sweatshirts. None of this would have happened without the tireless efforts of our PSG. Lastly, this is my 4th year here enjoying life at QSI, Chengdu. My wife and I have also learned it will be our last. We will be transferring to Almaty to another QSI school. While Grant, Julie, and I are very excited about the opportunity, we are already thinking of all the things we will miss about Sichuan, Chengdu, and QSIC. Having had the opportunity to be a part of preschool, elementary, middle, secondary, and International Baccalaureate has been wonderful at every level. We cannot thank our colleagues, students, and you, our wonderful QSI families, enough for having made this a great place to live and work. As we begin to consider all the culling and packing before us, and the amazing people who we will miss, one thing that we are sure to take with us is lifetime supply of Red Eagle Pride. Sincerely, Kurt Evan Rix The SAT will be taking place at QSI on Saturday, December 2.
