There were many High School supporters in attendance to watch our very own Isobel Bowen play for the Leinster U16 team. Leinster won their first game comprehensively as we watched on in delight. Their second game resulted in a further victory and they finished the first day in pole position. On the second day the Leinster team played against tough opposition and the match was goalless until a cleverly-worked short corner gave Leinster the breakthrough they needed. The game was won 1-0 and all Leinster had to do to win the tournament was to secure at least a draw in their final game. The next day Leinster came out on top. It was a truly memorable experience not
just for Isobel and the team who had worked so hard to win, but also for their supporters who travelled up to Grange Road over the course of the weekend. National Ploughing ChampionshipsOn the 20 September senior pupils studying Home Economics and Geology 1st XV Rugby WinLast week The High School Senior Cup Team beat Temple Carrig School in an away league game by 32-13. The game was played at a fast and determined pace; a real team effort. Their next league match is against Catholic University School away on Wednesday, 3 October at 2.30 pm. All support is welcome. Form 4 Home EconomicsForm 4 pupils studying the Transition Year Food and Culinary Skills Module enjoyed some baking recently. One aim of this module is to provide pupils with the practical skills necessary to prepare, cook, and serve a range of sweet and savoury dishes while observing key hygiene and safety factors. They certainly ticked all the boxes with this activity, with delicious results! Senior Debate TeamThe Senior Debate team have entered the Concern Debate competition again this year and are looking forward to getting going in the competition. Each school is required to provide an adjudicator to attend and mark debates as a condition of entry. This can be anyone connected with the school who is over 18. We are looking for a parent or past pupil who would be interested in volunteering for this - if you are that person could you please get in touch with Ms Hutchinson Edgar as soon as possible. CSPE Action ProjectLast week a representative from the Simon Community visited pupils from Form 3 to teach us about homelessness. He shared some stories with us which really changed our perspective on things. We realised how much we take having a home for granted. We were shocked to learn that homelessness has increased in recent years, so we plan to do something to help. Members of our form will participate in the Simon Community Home Run which takes place on Saturday 6 October. We are each collecting money for the charity knowing that even the smallest contribution can make a huge difference to someone's life. Science ClubThe High School Science Club is held on Fridays at 12.45 pm in C2. All junior pupils are most welcome. Please see Dr Brusey for any further information. Reading ClubReading Club takes place at the Library on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 8.30 am. All form groups are most welcome. Construction Studies Leaving Certificate ProjectsHere are some of the completed Construction Studies projects that were produced by our Leaving Certificate pupils at the end of last year. Well done to everyone for the tireless effort that went into these impressive pieces. Representing IrelandCongratulations to Harry Byrne who represented Ireland at the World Enduro competition in Spain last weekend. On challenging terrain and in high temperatures, Harry was bouyed by the cheers of impressive crowds who came out in droves to support the riders. Despite a puncture on the second day, Harry managed to finish 11th on two stages. The next race takes place next weekend. We wish him every success as he moves into the next stage of the competition. CondolencesIt was with great sadness that we learned of the death of Nicola Walker (née Lewis), beloved wife of Ray Walker (Sports Co-ordinator and senior teacher at The High School) and cherished mother of Rachel, Ellie, and Scott. We offer our deepest condolences to our colleague and his family at this difficult time. Dates for your Diary
