Thank you to our dedicated families and students for the time and effort they put into making UDA so clean and beautiful. Student Tardies and Early DismissalsInstruction for all TK through 8th grade students begins promptly at 8:00am, and ends at 3:00pm (TK-5) or 3:15pm (6-8). It is extremely important for students to be present in the classroom from beginning to end. Late arrivals and early dismissals lead to the disruption of routines, instruction, and project-based collaboration within your child’s classroom. A tardy or early release due to illness, family emergency, funeral, legal matter, or religious holiday is considered “excused.” Medical appointments are only excused if a note from the physician's/dentist’s office is received by the office. All other tardies/early releases are documented as “unexcused.” According to California law, a student who accumulates 3 absences to class of 30 minutes or more in one school year without a valid excuse is considered a truant. A student with irregular attendance, including tardiness and early dismissal, may be referred to the Urban Discovery Academy School Attendance Review Team (SART), Department of Child and Family Services, and/or the San Diego Police Department Truancy Office. Aide UpdateWe would like to thank Jacquie Spoon for her commitment to UDA and our students throughout this school year, and wish her luck on her future endeavors in Utah! In addition, we would like to welcome Alex Drozda to our team of Special Education aides! Mr. Drozda is a native San Diegan. He earned his undergraduate degree in Sociology at UC Davis and is currently completing his M.Ed and Pupil Personnel Services Credential at Point Loma Nazarene University. Prior to UDA, Mr. Drozda was a Visiting Teacher and middle school Special Education Aide. When not at UDA, he enjoys surfing, backpacking, and traveling abroad. He is looking forward to working with UDA’s team and students, and is ecstatic to make a positive contribution to UDA’s school community! Wednesday Programming PerformancesStudents enrolled in our musical theater and piano keyboard programs put on stellar performances during their final class of the trimester! Thank you to our families that came out to show their support. The next trimester of Wednesday Programming begins Wednesday, March 14. Visit the school website for more information. Middle School Information NightWe would like to invite our 5th grade families to our Middle School Information Night on Tuesday, March 13 from 5-6pm at UDA. This is a great opportunity to ask questions and learn more about our middle school program. We hope to see you there! Morning Drop-OffStudents may be dropped off as early as 7:15am each morning and will be supervised by UDA staff in the Hive. If you choose to drop off your child(ren) before 7:15am, a parent/guardian must remain with them until the school opens. Thank you for your cooperation. Healthy Snacks and Healthy MealsIn support of national wellness, UDA encourages families to provide students with healthy snacks, in addition to a healthy lunch if sending one from home, and to avoid sending soda, gum, or candy to school.
