Hello All, I hope everyone is staying well and enjoying the Spring weather. We would like to thank the community for your outpouring of support for our work as we navigate the present and future changes. Your kind words, volunteering of time and donations, have been uplifting as we continue to adapt to fulfill our mission. For a full update of our changes in all programs please visit thehrdc.org. If you missed our email last month, we are very pleased to share we are under contract to purchase land for Housing First Village! Our team is continuing to vet the site as we move through the due diligence phase with hopes of securing a permanent home for Housing First Village. With a worthwhile end goal in sight, we have plenty of work to do to develop the Village. We'd encourage you to check out this tool from our partners at the Urban Institute for a peek into the next phase of development, and the challenges of developing housing for our most vulnerable community members: The cost of affordable housing: Does it pencil out? Recently HRDC and partners have been able to provide 24/7 temporary shelter in a local hotel on a limited basis. Our staff has noted this has been transformational to guests, and we have observed huge changes in customers' ability to access resources and improve health outcomes. Witnessing the positive impacts of even temporary shelter and a place to safely navigate the COVID-19 public health crisis further inspires our efforts to create permanent supportive housing in Bozeman. Please consider supporting HRDC during Gallatin Valley Give Big Day April 30, 6 pm - May 1, 6 pm. Funds received this year will support our COVID-19 response efforts, including the hotel rooms noted above. Thank you! Best, Lila Fleishman P.S. Looking for something new to watch while physical distancing? HRDC staff pick for the month is currently streaming for free until May 13th on PBS. The documentary Bedlam highlights systemic challenges in the nation’s history and the current approach to mental healthcare and the justice system. Please note this is a rather emotionally intense documentary, but important content. |
